Chad Kelly interview on Sportstalk
Dec 18, 2013, 11:42 PM

Didn't know he was "furious" for lack of playing time and confronted the coaches. There is "swag" and there is "attitude" and Kelly seems like he may blur the line.
If he is the best qb then he will win the job but if coaches think your personality may be an issue then you have to be significantly better than the other guy. With Watson getting a full spring and Stoudt currently penciled as the starter for '14, anyone besides me think Kelly's competitiveness (a nicer way of putting it) could have him transferring if he's not playing a bunch in '14?

This kid is a competitor! Plain and simple boys and gals. I certainly see his point. I like his brass. Who wants a QB that doesn't want to play? He only did what he is expected to do. Go to the coach and make his point. As long as he doesn't become a distraction on the bench, good for him. This kid will be the starter in 14' at some point... Bank on it.

He just want's to play. The only problem I see

is that he still has a lot of "kid" in him especially when you compare him to Stoudt (or Boyd) who is very mature in his demeanor. But another spring giving him a chance to compete for starter may be the right combination of time and effort to help him grow up some.
There is no doubt he is a capable athlete. But it takes more to lead a team. And there is no doubt he has a boatload of excitement about playing the game:

I wasn't aware TAMU had so many options at QB after

Tannehill left. Is Joeckel as competitive as Manziel? Maybe they had a similar situation with two very strong QBs to choose from and still took Maziel, immaturity and all. I don't think it was that similar a situation strengthwise. Fewer options. Just my opinion.

QB on the team. Good problem to have.
Stoudt has looked better and certainly more mature on the field. Kelly can break the game open but needs game time experience to become effective. He is a gamer. Stoudt is a good backup that can manage the offense. Kelly needs the chance to become great.
Watson could come in and get the job but if history is an indicator he won't.
If they don't gamble and give it to Kelly he will probably be out of herein '15. ala Russell Wilson

Chad Kelly is gonna be just fine.
I listened to the interview. Really nothing to see here other than a talented youngster who may be one of the most competitive players on the team and who believes in his abilities. You know, he should had played in the Citadel game.
Now, could he had approached the coaches after the game in a better manner, sure.
Given the chance, he will win a lot of football games for Clemson

Stoudt will either transfer or finish his career at Clemson and get his degree.

I like his competitive spirit, as a young man he will learn about poise and tact. I hope the best QB on our team will become the starter early next season, no matter which one it is. I will say in fairness that Stout was leading Kelly when Kelly got injured in the spring and I think he is likely to be leading at the end of the spring this year too.

Morris has already decided that Watson is going to be the future of Clemson football. Stout will be the starter early next season, Kelly will transfer this summer and Watson will become "de man" in game 3-4-5. At the end of the year folks will say "it was a mistake" to let Kelly go as he become a "very good QB" at another school, possible Maryland.

That is one heck of a sheepish grin he's holding back.
Morris must've had good news for him...
In other words, Swag is the starter.
At a minimum it will be a two QB system... which I think would be best.
