Can someone actually explain to me how? Clemson SMU

Please explain to me how if both SMU and Clemson wins out. How SMU will be in the ACC championship game over Clemson? I don’t get it Clemson the highest ranked of the 2 teams. And could you imagine a scenario where a 11-1 Clemson misses the playoffs? No wonder Clemson wants to leave the ACC. Especially if you have a couple of 2 loss sec teams getting in over us.

I don't think ACC goes on national rankings.

They look at common opponents, scores, records, etc for tiebreaker.

You cannot look at scores against common opponents when Clemson has been calling of the dogs and playing backups.

Which is why some people get so mad at calling off the dogs so early. Because this is exactly what they look at. It's not based on national ranking.

That’s not true. They do NOT put extra recognition in for how bad you beat someone when they are unranked opponents.

The POC statement includes the following which I paraphrase...

'We look at teams' progress over the season and select teams which are the best now.'
We all know, the earlier the loss the less it is considered significant when they seed PO teams.

Could be 3 loss sec team in. Only 1 team from ACC ,1 team from big 12, and 1 from group of 5 get in. Add notre dame and at least 8 from big 10 and sec. Without notre dame then 9 from big 10 and sec.

In the case of a two-team tie for the second-best winning percentage, the first move is to turn to head-to-head competition, with the winner of that game holding the advantage. If there was no head-to-head competition, the next determinant is winning percentage against all common opponents. Then it moves to win percentage against common opponents with the added caveat of order of finish in the conference, beginning with the highest-seeded common opponents and moving downward in order of the standings. The fourth step is to factor in the combined winning percentage of a team's conference opponent, with the team who faced the better opponents gaining the advantage.
After that, the league will factor in details not settled on the field. The fifth step will be for third-party SportSource Analytics to determine a Team Rating Score at the conclusion of regular season play and the team with a higher score will advance to the Championship Game. If all else fails, the commissioner of the league chooses the advancing team at random.

I think the gist of that is they don't want people from outside the conference deciding who should go to our championship.

If Clemson wins out that would mean they are undefeated in conference play. Who would be the two teams ahead of us. I don’t think that’s possible.

Miami, SMU and Clemson could have 0 losses in the ACC. That’s the hypothetical that keeps being brought up.

I’m telling you, the ACC is dragging us down!! Badly!! We have got to get out!! I want in the SEC!! I don’t get excited by any game we play anymore because they are all sorry opponents. The ACC is simply sorry football.

If we lose one game and don’t make it to the ACC championship, we still getting in. Might even prefer this route. Why chance a loss

I don’t think I’ve ever seen -61 points. How is that even possible? I have seen Clemson win 8 out of the last 9 games against the chickens, though. So it’s not just the ACC that’s trash.
