He's a closer approaching 50 pitches. What do you expect the result to be. Stuff will likely deteriorate and you also lose him for the weekend. If he gets in ANY trouble, pull him.

And the ACC isn't the big prize. You underestimate going from normally throwing a quick inning or two, and then approaching 70 pitches. I don't, as my shoulder can attest to. College coach pulled the same BS my freshman year an I was never the same. Went from mid 90s to mid 80s after injury.
