Can Clemson retain Dabo?

Has anyone else wondered if we can keep Dabo here at Clemson if they can’t get out of this horrible situation with the ACC? Why would he want to stay somewhere that will have every single odd stacked against him? Why would he stay here at Clemson with one hand tied behind his back because of the ACC and not go home to Bama when Saban retires? There is so much on the line here. They’ve got to get in the B1G or SEC or this may be the last season or 2 Clemson is in the conversation nationally.

Something tells me there is a lot more to come. Dabo seems especially excited about things right now, I feel Clemson will end up fine - even if in a surprising way we haven't thought about yet.

The only way I know is getting out of the ACC. I can’t think of another surprise option.

I think when Dabo talked about all of this moving to a super-expanded playoff. He felt the conference alignments would not mean as much down the road and as long as he can continue to recruit well and keep us a perennial Top 15 program, we would always be in future playoffs when we reach that point.
This is why I don't think he is all that bothered about what is going on now; he knows where it is heading and how it will change and he just wants his team to stay focused on the present, knowing in the long-term Clemson football will still be relevant.

What about pay? Will Clemson be able to offer as much as the schools in the big conferences will in 3-5 years? He’s competitive and wants to win. Will being in a lessor conference allow for that?

I think it all comes down to performance. If you win championships, they find the money to keep you. He still gets 11.5M per year for several years to come so I doubt he is that concerned and figures he will continue to be taken care of because he always has been.

So if Bama or some other big name offers 30mil a year to come coach does he stay here or go? They will be able to pay that, Clemson will not with ACC money. That coupled with all the other handicaps, I see no way we keep him as long as the ACC keeps Clemson hostage.

We are not in a financial crisis at Clemson, Dabo has everything he needs in the way of facilities, we are recruiting as well as ever and Dabo's check hits his bank account every month. All of this stuff is just total fake news.

What are you even saying? I can’t handle what truth? I asked the question about Dabo. Yes I can’t handle the idea of losing Dabo because if the ACC and money. Calling someone a Coot because they ask a question that bothers your feelings is low IQ. Be better.

I have entertained this thought as well. Dabo has kept the Tigers in the hunt but its going to be more difficult in the future. Dabo setting Clemson apart from the rest has worked wonders but the portal nil and now conference realignment it will be a challenge.

He said the same thing some of us are saying. It's not the end of the world if Clemson doesn't make it in the new semi-pro league.

I think Dabo leaving if we are forced to maintain the status quo beyond another year or two is a realistic fear. Unfortunately the rest of the ACC would love for him to leave so they certainly aren't gonna make any effort to keep him around for us.

Anyone that has been a Clemson fan throughout Dabo’s tenure understands that he isn’t motivated by money. I think this would be the 4th or 5th reason out of 5 on why he would leave Clemson. So, I think you are either barking or “crowing” up the wrong tree.

Maybe we should keep an eye on atm u. They now have incredible facilities and booster support, all that sec $$$, and a wealth of talent in the state. All they need is an outstanding coach.

Why do you assume Alabama wants Dabo? He hasn't proven himself in a tough conference like the SEC. I think Bama would go after someone like Lane Kiffin or Steve Sarkisian before they would go after Dabo. I mean, he would probably be on the list somewhere, but he wouldn't be the first call I don't think.

Yea makes sense that Alabama wouldn’t want one of their own who happens to be the only coach available that has accomplished anything close to what Saban has. I hope you’re right

This forum is so weird. Do you really want to just blow smoke up each others butts and make posts for points and not what’s really own your mind? If Clemson can not leave the ACC, why would Dabo stay at a place where he is at a HUGE disadvantage? That’s all I was saying….

I didn't say anything about that. Just pointing out the fact that you seem to like to stir the pot and incite criticism on yourself. And have been doing that for 25 years no less. That's an impressive feat. Perhaps you could've taken a less abrasive angle and asked the same questions over the years and not come across as you have. Then again, perhaps the reactions you get are exactly what you crave. Fascinating
