Campus discussion

What is your favorite spot on campus? Or was? I am a current senior at Clemson who will be graduating in the Fall. My favorite spot on campus has always been either Bowman Field or the Dikes. Both are beautiful spots that really broadcast the beauty of the campus. The Dikes offer the view of campus, the lake, and a great view of the sunrise/sunset.
I am curious to know your years attended at Clemson (if you went), and your favorite spot on campus. Also, I would love to know how campus looked during your years at Clemson compared to mine (2018-2021).
Thank ya'll!

Unrelated, but I used to laugh at my parents (early 80s grads)

At how little they remembered about campus. 5-10 years later, it’s changed so much that it throws me off too!
Congratulations on getting where you have. Live in the moment because the vast majority of us on here would love to have a day in your shoes again. Best of luck!

I ran a lot while a student, and part of my 5 mile run every

day included running across the #### above the Clemson Football practice fields. I was even caught by a Greenville News cameraman while running across the #### in an heavy snow storm.
I'm now 62 years old, so walking is more my speed than my running days 40 years ago. That said, running across the #### was/will always be some of my favorite memories at Clemson.

I, too, used to run across the practice fields on A 5 mi. run that included the Y-beach and a run through the woods right above it. I came back past Littlejohn coliseum and came up the hill right past the shoeboxes. My favorite walk, however, was coming from Lee Hall (I'm an architect) up the walkway past Fort Hill going back to Johnstone. There was a beautiful cherry tree on Fort Hill that bloomed every Spring like a giant snow ball - I would stop and step inside the branches surrounded by white light and the murmur of honey bees and think to myself, this is what I want my home to be, with a wife and children. This was 1973-'78. And oh, the Dogwood trees....
Go Tigers!!!

In the early 80s, I would go down to the football practice fields. There were no buildings down there except for Jervey. It was so dark, and you had a great view of the stars. Very peaceful.

77-81. View from widow Looking out on Riggs Field on game days. Band playing on way to stadium and crowds rolling in. Great times. Enjoy your time left in a special place. Go Tigers

After delivering morning papers to the shoeboxes, walking out and seeing the morning sun reflect off of the snow up on the Blue Ridge over the top of the Stadium. This was in '71, I think. This was before the Upper Decks.

I’ll give a vote to Bowman, playing ultimate or just tossing a ball. My daughter is a senior this year and one thing I wish y’all could enjoy is East Beach. I love the rowing facility, but it was great packing a cooler and going there to swim and lay out

The old field house {Fike) in mid to late '60s
Aug 8, 2021, 8:45 PM
|
|
All students practically in high school gym-like setting. Guys on front row of the bleachers could put their feet inbounds. Had some great games and always hard to get in due to capacity. Could go under the bleachers though and open windows at ground level to let buddies sneak in after doors were closed. Could yell into opposing players ears from from a couple of feet away and they still couldn't hear you because it was so loud. Don't think you will find anywhere like that these days.

I played intramural b'ball in Fike Fieldhouse in the early 70's. I had to pay a guy named Banks McFadden $20 for a ball I had checked out and some other guy ran off with.... my conversation with him at the time (very short and to the point) is one of the highlights of my Clemson memories.
Go Tigers!!!

'72 - '77. The Amphitheater, where we all gathered nekkid to register before setting the state record for streaker participants.
Second place would be the Y Beach and the Bengal Ball.
