A Clemson basketball team being ranked is rare. We are competitive against solid teams. 2 of 3 losses are in OT. Our guys play hard and we clawed back into this game when we looked done twice.

Big whoop. That just shows how pitiful our basketball history is. He hasn’t won a single championship in how many season? Maybe he just needs another decade to get something in the trophy case. No reason to lose to this “solid” coot team other than typical Brownell.

Correct. Grossly inconsistent. Average coach and recruiter. Big wins are more than offset by horrible, head-scratching losses. Scoring droughts and slow starts are his specialties. Overall mediocre results. Never won more than one ACCT game and ZERO championship of any kind. Yet the administration keeps giving him raises and extensions. Maybe they figure he needs 25 years to actually do something.

Correct. At the 7:27 mark of the first half, Clemson had 10 points. Brownell is clueless when it comes to close games. Several times against SC Clemson had the ball and the lead. Yet never had more than a 2 point lead the whole game. With all the momentum on Clemson's side, Brownell dug himself an 89-82 OT hole.

Personally I think we just have an over paid outrageously mediocre coach who always seems to find a decent season when his job is on the line. We are trapped in purgatory with no end in sight.
That is why I think people are fed up with the program.

You’re right, it was better than decent. I would call it good borderline pretty good. But at that point it gets pedantic Had we won and made it to the final 4 OR won the ACC then it would be different story.
At the same time how about not getting flat out embarrassed in the ACCT in that same year?
And you’re right I am biased but not because of JK. That is laughable.
I am biased against Brad because he is a mediocre coach. I held that viewpoint long before JK started trolling his own fan base.
Brad is Tommy Bowden, and we are trapped.

or formerly the BCS bowl games. There are 12 teams that get to play in those games. That is about 10% of all of college football. Tommy never sniffed that level of success. There are 352 division 1 basketball teams and yet we have been to the sweet 16 and elite 8. I would argue that those seasons are equivalent to a NY6 type season. There are only 36 at large bids to the NCAAT which means you have to be in the top 10% of the remaining teams after automatic qualifiers (many of which are below Clemson) to even get a bid... if you are in the top 10% of college football where do you finish - in the CFP...
We are not an elite basketball program and Brad probably isn't an elite coach. But he is a dang good coach with dang good results and the results have been trending up ever since he started.

Hey like I said I hope we do win. I would love to be wrong about Brad.
Thing is there is 13 of 15 YEARS of mediocre basketball in a conference that honestly has gotten worse during his tenure and we still can’t win it. Name me another D1 bball or football coach that has been at the same school for 15years and doesn’t have 1 single title.
By trapped I mean that he hasn’t been so god awful that we have no choice but to fire him nor has he won anything. We are trapped in the middle. That is the same phenomenon as Tommy. We can disagree on that but I see a parallel there.

I think you need a more relevant metric.
We are competitive against good teams. We can beat top 5 teams. When we have a great excuse to pack it in, we fight back hard. These are signs of a good team.

Extremely disappointed and every true Clemson knows that losing to the Coots is inexcusable. No excuses! It shouldn’t happen. If it does, better not let it keep happening or you’ll be out of a job. However, this team is fundamentally bad and needs to learn to play as a team instead of throwing up shots. The start of this season is literally what it was like under Tommy Bowden in football. He would have a decent season and fans would be extremely excited, the team would start playing poorly and not live up to the hype, and then he would somehow win random big games that would save his job. Sound familiar? This basketball team was hyped up and expected to accomplish big goals. They aren’t living up to it. Hope they beat Wake…

Annoying because all the AD wants to do is ask for more money to buy more players. Getting to the point that an alarming number of fans are about to show you old timers what money or lack of can do. Keep it up and all of this Loyalty will be the reason that Clemson athletics will be a mid-major. Just keep thinking everything is OK. Great move old timer!!

I hate losing to these idiots in any sport and never should be acceptable … we should wanna bury them every time we play , like when we had the ball multiple
Times with a 7 point lead in football game but we tried to sit on that… take shots and see if you can beat them by 3 scores not try to protect a lead lol sorry a ramble but I’m not turning on this team or BB yet… Iv been vocal in the past but last year bought a wait and see year without calling for change. I still feel like this team has the experience to be very dangerous come tourney time and really expect us tonight win a couple games in the tourney… we have to figure out how to play better defense though , not switching or getting through screens killed us in the Memphis game and tonight their kid dominated us down low … nobody could guard the kid and Lahkin has the size just too slow. I think they figure it out though …and if they don’t and fall flat I’ll once again be on the change train but until then I’m hopeful for a change.

But sometimes when we do I enjoy roasting him. I’m sure he doesn’t care but if he was truly a Clemson Men’s basketball fan he has the opposite effect of what he wants to achieve. I love all Clemson sports and want to see us win. Don’t love Brad but any levelheaded person would have to think that he earned a few more years after last. But JKs anti Dabo shtick is like fingernails on the chalkboard. It’s possible to pull for both teams, most of us do. And thanks for the reminder. We can dislike JK and still pull for our Tigers to win.

I'm not on this board constantly but I've read a least 40 or 50 of JK's posts. I'm just missing why he's such a lightening rod for criticism. I know he's a Brownell supporter, a BB supporter, and for that matter a Clemson fan in general. I don't care for Brownell but they did have a historic run last year. Whenvever JK commments on football shortcomings (and there are many) he gets blasted. Dabo is 9-7 against USC. Hardly dominant. Brad is 7-7. Even less impressive. Don't understand why our ups and downs on the field or hardwood can't be discussed by JK without such an uproar.

Except the ACC won two of the ACC/SEC challenge. Sure, it was stacked in the SEC favor but we still have to play who’s in front of us. I agree with your post if it was last year. ESPN is the liberal left and the kids believe their lies. That’s why the talent is stacked in the SEC favor this year.

my support for all of our programs: if it's Clemson related, I'm a supporter...win, lose or draw, as we used to say.
That support has nothing to do with any one or more people, be they a coach, team member or a poster on TNet. I like Clemson to be successful in all its endeavors, and if not, then a change in leadership may be necessary. As for basketball, I'm like all of you: I despise losing to the Chickens, but I'm a realist. It's going to happen, sometimes more than we want, and sometimes when we shouldn't lose. We are early in the season, and I wouldn't be surprised if this team doesn't rally and have all Clemson fans fired up, as the season progresses.
As for Coach Brownell, I've posted before that I believe our AD, meaning our BOT, believes he has won enough to keep him, especially considering he has kept the program clean with little to no controversy, is a decent, respectable man and has done the best he can with what he's had to work with. Some will disagree, but those "some" aren't on our Board. So, there's that.

Aside from the Zion Williamson pay for play scandal, the accusations of abuse by the family of O’Neil McBride, and the time he stepped onto the court to shove Girard, the guy had been clean as a whistle.

After last year I'm fully behind Brad. Throw in the solid regular seasons and victories at Chapel Hill and the guy deserves our full support. Since NIL, Brad has done an excellent job making this team competitive each and every year.
I think this team has a solid year by seasons end and gets in the tourney again and wins some games. That is really the last thing Brad needs to accomplish. Having back to back NCAA tourney teams that make some noise. I think he gets that done this year.

As long as he is coaching the Tigers, I will rally around him. That's all that matters!! I'm a fan of all things Clemson and will rally behind all of the coaches. Not saying that there are not some glaring issues, and that his history is not stellar. As a fan though.....there is nothing to be done about who coaches what. Just win Tigers.....no matter who the coach is!!

TNet posters do not represent the Clemson fanbase. It’s an extremely small sample of Clemson fans mixed in with haters. And driven by a desire to establish an identity here and maintain a pulse. So yes, TNetters are negative on the basketball team because they don’t like JK, but real fans aren’t affected by this. At all. Go to a game and see.
