Cajun Cafe is private, right?

4

May 29, 2023, 8:45 AM

I have no problem with it. Just asking the question. Years ago I walked over with my sons to try the food and was told I couldn't go in. No problem at all. Got food from somewhere else. But announcers are always promoting it like it's a must-do for visitors. Is it still, or was it ever a private thing? Maybe I'm confused. 😄

Man it would be sweet to have a TigerNet party at the Cajun Cafe. DK hosting a regional is one of the best sights in college baseball.

That announcer is a complete doofus - and they kept replaying that entire segment following the game.

Yes, it is private. I am not sure how it started, but as I understand, it is a group of people who always get those tickets. It is by invitation only. If someone decides not to get their tickets, they invite someone else to buy them. They have it set up that they pay a certain amount each season (it is pretty expensive) and all the food is included. They pay someone to cook. It is a pretty rowdy crew! We have tickets on the first base line and can hear them and smell their yummy food. They appear to have a good time.

It’s public property nut restricted access. This thread explains it.

Students began building scaffolding and platforms in the back of trucks to tailgate and watch the games over the outfield fence around 2003-2005. It was around this time Cheap Seats was created. These tailgates quickly became one of the best tailgates and student/fan experiences in college baseball. The older fans/donors saw an opportunity to capitalize on the students idea and started the Cajun Cafe where the students parked in Right field. Students then parked in center field and left field afterwards until the practice facility/batting cages and additional stands were built.

It sucked at the time be a part of such a great experience and see it ushered out to appease donors at the Cajun Cafe, the brief tradition of tailgating for every home game for a few seasons is one of the most memorable experiences I have of college. It was one hell of a good time.

Going by what the announcers say, I would have thought it was a walk-up vendor. Don't know what they gain by saying things like "Any trip to the DKS must include a trip to the Cajun Cafe...".

Thanks to all for clearing that up.

I was beginning to doubt my own memory. Tv guys keep saying MAN YOU GOTTA TRY THIS FOOD!

All good. No hating from me. I love tiger baseball but I admit I'm not committed to attending every game. Those that do are entitled to establish parties & tailgates and they can't be expected to feed everybody.

The sign is a bit confusing though because it gives the impression of a food vendor.

You can put your name on the waitlist to get tickets.

A few years ago, it wasn’t very long for season tickets.

I'm not bitter, but I am bias. The students were creating a new experience that builds tradition and the group that started the Cajun Cafe (you know for all those Cajuns in Clemson) took the idea and used it for their exclusive benefit. The students got robbed.

Outfield tailgates went from a social gathering for fans and students to an exclusive club catering to privileged donors. The idea of Cheap Seats for broke college kids turned into a hangout for old donors with paid admission.

The Cajun Cafe is an over exaggerated talking point during games to fill voids in conversation while calling games.

How many people outside of a core group even go to the Cajun Cafe?

Yeah I agree. And it’s a little silly to have “Cajun cafe”

When that’s very much an LSU thing.

Students vying for those seats would be a lot cooler

Never liked the name either. Cajun doesn't say Clemson, it would seem more appropriate at LSU or Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns.

Well don't they usually send food up to the media and radio folks? If they are going to do that then it's to be expected they will comment.

The Cajun Cafe, Cheap Seats and a couple of other right field bleachers are like the suites in the football stadium. They are private and the members pay a fee for the access. Cajun Cafe members pay an additional fee for food. Alcohol is allowed as long as it is in plastic cups. The area is technically not inside the stadium. Some of you will remember many years ago when the cheap seats were on top of the bus(currently underneath the right field bleachers) that would park outside the center field wall. A rowdy group would sit in chairs on top of the bus, drink beer and cheer on the Tigers. It was a Clemson Baseball tradition like no other. The team would always rush the center field wall to high five the Cheap Seats members. These were the real cheap seats because nobody paid to watch the games. The ACC and NCAA tried to get Clemson to ban the cheap seats. Once games started getting exposure on TV and the announcers loved to highlight the Cheap Seats with the beer drinking, the ACC/NCAA started putting the pressure on Clemson. Jack Leggett fought them tooth and nail….this was a special Clemson tradition that brought great motivation to his teams. The great compromise came about when they agreed to build the bleachers on top of the old bus. The previous occupants of the free seats agreed to buy tickets to the private right field bleachers and the University allows them to drink out of plastic cups.
