Bowl Forfeit

Dec 6, 2022, 6:26 PM

How many seasons before a bowl team has to forfeit the game for not having enough eligible players due to the transfer portal and opt outs?

Well COVID forfeited some and wasn’t Fla last year basically down to their minimum?

Yeah, but those situations were due to Covid inactives. I’m talking about a scenario where half the team walks after the season and there’s not enough left to compete in the bowl game.

It’s definitely coming.

My guess is 2023, probably coinciding with a coaching change, which further opens the floodgates.

Good question.

Seriously thought that A&M might have problems if they somehow got into a bowl game this year.

21 of their players hit the portal. So far, 9 have transfer destinations.

It's won't be long.

Situation: Popular coach pulls some underhanded garbage, leaves team at end of year for another (Brian Kelly type move), and all the recruits bail before the bowl game.

I hate the current state of college football. The Orange Bowl used to be a prestigious and highly desired bowl to play in. Now, due to the 10-31 Rule or whatever they call it and the loose transfer portal, it has come to mean very little. Just a bunch of selfish guys thinking “what is in it for me?”
For example: DJ said right after the game that no matter what, he was going to compete and try to be his best. He just wanted to be there for his team mates. Next, he declares for the portal EARLY, and deserts his team mates, fully knowing that for the Orange Bowl, we have only Klubnik and a couple of others who have seen very little playing time. I hope we aren’t disappointed by an injury and having to rely on one of these other guys to help us win. If that turns out to be the case, I hope with all my heart that Hunter Johnson get some good playing time and rips TN.

I honestly think smaller bowl games will eventually be erased after the 12 team playoff is put in. With how bowls are now and how many players don’t play in them anyways. The NCAA will see bowl games as a non revenue entity anymore and will “protect” players from getting hurt in unreasonable games. This will be modern college football.
