Bourbon Talk

Wondering what you bourbon tnetters are sipping on this fine whiskey Wednesday, or if not today, lately?

I'm sipping on Smoke Wagon uncut my first taste of this whiskey in over a year.

What do you say 2k® Salty55® TigerCC® and other bourbon tnetters?

Tonight, it’s a very smooth and dangerous 11% IPA.

I've had Smoke Wagon on my list to try.

I was gifted Blade and Bow bourbon.
Pretty good.

I picked up a Stagg Barrel Proof about a month ago but I'm saving it for the right occasion.
I opened a bottle of Old Grand Dad 16 years and have been sparingly enjoying it. It's fairly smooth and has a nutty note.

I was sipping Doc Swinson 'French Toasted' on a rock. The first time I ever had it, a year or so ago, the sip was 'Salty made a bad purchase'! Came back about five minutes later and, BOOM, really opened up as the rock melted.

I’m usually sipping on Benchmark Top Floor on those not so special days. It’s very similar to Eagle Rare which is my favorite. I also really enjoy Traveller whiz I believe to be a blend of Eagle rare and Buffalo Trace. My next go to is Buffalo Trace. I do keep a couple bottles of Blanton’s Gold for very special occasions eg anniversary birthday etc. I just finished off Stagg Jr which is probably my favorite cask strength as it’s very approachable at such a high octane. Other than that it’s Coors Light pints or blue moon.

Eagle Rare is my favorite as well. Really like Buffalo Trace too.

I have been sipping, if that means three bourbon and waters (50-50) nightly

for 50 + years (I’m 82 years old). I drink probably one of the cheapest bourbons you can buy, Early Times. But I prefer it over Makers Mark, Black Jack, Buffalo Trace, etc. My bourbon has a bite to it, like it should. None of this “it goes down smooth crap.” To each his own. Don’t mean to offend you experts.

I know what you mean. I tend to prefer bourbons that smack you in the face. I have a bottle of Early Times that I am do to revisit. Maybe I'll have a pour of it this weekend.

I had a sample recently of one of the expensive Garrison Brothers whiskeys at a liquor store in Chattanooga. I don't recall, which one, but the bottle cost over $200. It was good, but I wouldn't spend that kind of money on whiskey unless I won an obscene amount of money playing the lottery.

a 15 year old different from a 10.
Price is about demand and scarcity more so than quality in the Whiskey world.

I can usually tell a $60 bottle from a bottle under $30, but once you cross $100 it's simply a collectors item for me.

My palate isn't the most discerning either, but I do seem to pick up more dry oak flavor in bourbons 10 years old and older. I'm not a fan of dry oak, so I stick to bourbons between 4 and 8 years old.

As for price, there are plenty of $30-$40 bottles that I prefer over many bottles $60 and more.
