I’m sure this fella is a top-notch dude, but I would rather have my business promoted in a dialect and vernacular that is more familiar to my target clientele. Anybody else find it peculiar that the guys accent is so strongly nonlocal?

Even this SC-born, AL-raised, SC-current bumpkin can say 'theirs' enunciated correctly.

Is that the same company whose ads usually contain an attempt at some meandering "life lesson story", like firing his good friend for seeking a better paying job b/c the friend wasn't "committed to the job"?

As soon as I heard “thurz,” i knew this outfit wasn’t spending too much on advertising. They’re clearly devoting their resources to substantive customer care, dagummit.
I wish other companies would treat their clients like this outfit treats thurz.

Definitely find it strange. Don’t know why they made that switch.

But his accent is annoying. They don’t need Roscoe P Coltrane or anything but I wouldn’t mind them have at least a faint southern accent.

Walt’s got an accent that’s real and fun, but it’s not real fun.
And why he can’t insert a consonant into a name like “Giancarlo Stan()on” and maintains that long glottal stop thing is beyond me. He’s on radio, for cryin out loud…

My bad! I’ll fix the OP.
I’d love your feedback on this as a native Northerner - would it affect your perception of “trust,” etc. for a business to buy a radio ad in Michigan with a pronounced Southern accent voiceover?

I think it depends on the context and target audience. For me it’s a little difficult because most national ads from companies like Capital One or Coke sound like I do. I don’t detect an accent. However, if I see an ad about vacationing in a certain location or region I’d expect to it to include a native accent (eg New Orleans or Hawaii). It provides better authenticity.
