The OP asked who didn’t pan out... I feel sure he would’ve been great if he would have been able to see the field.

I’m all fairness to Willy Korn, he was injured the first season dislocating his shoulder and season two he tore his labrum. I believe he was injured against Ga. Tech. After leaving Clemson he lead North Greenville College to at least one championship for NGC’s level of football. He was their QB for 2 years. While at Clemson he just caught some bad breaks. IMO he was no where near a bust.
Part of an article I read: “ A dislocated shoulder the third game of his first season, a torn labrum the next and a well-publicized, head-to-head battle with Kyle Parker for the starting job left Korn disenchanted and devoid of confidence.“

Michael Carr.
Feb 23, 2021, 9:31 PM
|
|
Highly touted prospect, who was injured soon after arriving on campus and had to redshirt his freshman year, who didn’t pan out on the field, who left school abruptly, who supposedly told others back home that we illegally recruited him, but then said we didn’t. It was a whirlwind of storylines, all resulting in a huge bust of a recruit both on and off the field.

I don't remember his being injured. I do remember other Clemson players saying the problem was he simply could not read the option. Although when he was being recruited they thought he would be perfect for our option offense.

You are correct...no injury for Micheal Carr.
But, aside from never doing anything on field at Clemson or anywhere else, he had a girlfriend back home in Amite and kept driving back on weekends to see her. That got old fast and apparently she meant more to him than being at Clemson.

"AMITE, La. - An 8x10 color photograph of Michael Carr sits in a trophy case at Amite High School obscuring pieces of Warrior memorabilia that has faded in importance. Carr is wearing a Clemson uniform in the picture, but not a smile.
He was a high school all-America, guiding the Amite Warriors to Louisiana’s Class AAA state championship game in the Superdome in 1987. College hasn’t been so easy. First, there was a broken arm that forced Carr to redshirt as a freshman. Homesickness compounded his disappointment. “When he broke his arm he was discouraged,” Carr’s sister, Ella Giddens said yesterday. Giddens was quoted in earlier stories as Ella Robertson but said yesterday she preferred Giddens. “And he was basically homesick,” Giddens said. “This was his first time away from home so long. We talked to him, and he decided what he wanted to do.”

Good solid Clemson career, no disrespect on that. But I thought coming out of HS, he might’ve become an NCAA AA and long tenured NBA player. Always thought he was on the cusp of greatness. But alas, reality never quite matched high HS expectations.
Still hoping for another Nance, Grant or Davis ____ or comparable collegiate star to wear a Clemson b-ball jersey. We had lots of very good players over the last 20 years but not a superstar.

Xavier Thomas is just getting started, he has played some great football for us. He’s definitely not a bust by any stretch.
He’s undersized for the position but he has incredible speed vs his size. His best ball is in front of him. He’s been hurt & played hurt in 2020, he then got hit hard with covid & strep Throat back to back & came in out off shape on account of it.
Xavier will show everyone this year if he stays healthy.

So far he has been a major bust lol. Love the kid but that doesnt change the fact that he hasnt lived up to expectations. Injuries and illness can be reasons for a bust for sure but they dont make it not be a bust.

Demarkcus Bowman was as big of a bust as we have ever had, he was a 5 star top 10 player in a great class.
I had such high hopes but it had to be culture shock having all those RB’s in front of you & being away from the city of Miami.
I hope he ends up doing well for Florida but the grass won’t be greener there, he’ll regret leaving but hopefully he has enough determination to win the spot because the talent is there for him. He’s beating all the odds coming from a rough neighborhood.

Just saying! Committed but went away! Didn't play full season in college due to health or other issues. Jumps out of 4 story windows, etc. First round pick but i think only started 5 games since 2017. Busted multiple times for mary-jane, cocaine possession, dui, and undisclosed failures to meet expectations. Came to spring camp 40lbs over weight in 2019. Hasnt played a snap since 2019.
Dude has all the talent in the world. Was first round draft even with his issues at Ole Miss but still can't get on the field. He is 26yrs old, he could bust his butt for 2-3yrs and make more money than I could for the remainder of my life! It's so horrible to see ppl waste opportunities kind of like M Bryant.
Heck, just go bust butt for 2yrs clean and give me your $8-9+mil you could make. I will give you ounce of coke and $10k every month for 40yrs and I would still have over $4mil in the bank plus my investments.
There are just some kids that cant figure out their opportunity is short lived but what a huge opportunity it is. 5-7yrs of true dedication would change their lives and their close family members lives for the rest of their lives. Just a free vehicle and a nice $250k house with no mortgage would give people huge safety nets in life.
