Better player coming out of college M. Bryant or Cain?
Jan 10, 2018, 6:27 PM

I think they are pretty similar guys. Bryant is taller, maybe a little faster (but not by much if he is), and probably had a little more upside based on his physical tools. Cain had much more college production, but Martavis played along side 1st round draft pick talent in Sammy and Nuk. They both are vertical threats and have similar question marks entering the draft as far as drops, route tree diversity, and an off the field issue on his record.
I wouldn't be surprised if Cain gets drafted in the 4th round like Martavis, but also has an impact on his team his rookie year like Bryant.
Cain's probably the safer player though.

Bryants intangibles/potential was better but Cain was better

in college. But to some degree we never saw Martavis's overall potential b/c he was in the same corp as sammy and nuk. He was the 3rd option.
We didn't know just how good we had it at that time. We underachieved as far as championships were concerned. Had alot to do with the Defense not being there yet.

Wish we’d have benefited from a little more of that “upside” when he was at Clemson.
If he’s in the same class as Randy Moss now then he gave Clemson about 50% or less.

I expected a lot ... I wanted him completely focused on playing his very best for Clemson for at least two and preferably three full seasons.
Instead, we got a total of the equivalent of maybe one full season.
He was, and is a fabulous athlete. He just was not my favorite player to come through the program. I never felt like his full attention was on the team from the time he couldn't make the grades to get in school as a freshman all the way to the day he gave up his eligibility to enter the draft early.

Yes ... his personal problems sabotaged his ability. Hard to separate the two.
Looking for CM Shack's obligatory "getting the last word in" reply shortly.

In the world of NFL receivers, you’re terribly undervaluing their difference of 3+ inches of height and about 0.10 of a second difference in straight-line speed.
Martavis didn’t have Deshaun for 2 of his 3 years either and he still averaged 7 yards more than Cain per catch across his career. Can you imagine Deandre, Sammy, & Martavis’ numbers in college if they had Deshaun for 2 years and the pass protection we’ve enjoyed since 2015? Those guys are legends.

Natural talent? Cain.
Physical attributes (whose body is more "NFL ready")? Bryant.
Developmental progress? Bryant.

the many huge catches Deon had the last three years. I'll list a few of them:
1. The catches he had against coots as a freshman. 2. 2 TDs against Louisville in 2016 and great catch across middle on 3rd down on last drive. 3. Long catch and run against Bama in 2016 and several more to keep drives going.
