Let's be honest, the coaches have to start KB against Furman

He is the returning starter. We won 12 games last year and made the playoffs. There is no way as a coach you can demote him to start the season. Doing so would cause issues within the team and possibly with recruits as well.
There is zero harm in starting KB against Furman, while maintaining that the QB competition is close, everyone is competing, the competition will extend into the season, etc. This is exactly how this situation should play out as far as the media and team are concerned.
It's obvious that Lawrence is great, but there is no way you can hand a true freshman the reigns over a returning senior QB who was the QB during what was a great season last year.
