16 teams from 12. It will be there anyway soon enough. 4 extra $$ boom booms.

Kill the Conference Championship games. Few matter today - ours did but it's a rarity, and with a top 16 most opponents in each would be in anyway. The extra 4 playoff games will out-draw CCG numbers bigly. Keep it at 5 top conference champions for autos and let the regular season determine those. Plenty of tie-breakers to get there. 2nd place is likely in with most conferences.

Move the first round up one week to the 2nd weekend in December instead of the 3rd, which would also be one week later than CCG weekend. Home stadiums for top 8, with only 2 weeks after the regular season ends and students still around largely for most. Enough time to prep a home field.

Losers of the Round of 16, 8 of them, fill in remaining bowl slots for late December / early January. Largely 3 weeks-ish for first round losers to keep at it and do the bowl thing. This also adds value for better rated holiday TV fare.

Winners of that round continue as it is designed today.
