The place to hit is Franklins BBQ. The guy is THE guru of BBQ. He has a BBQ school where people from all over the world come to learn how to make the world's best brisket. We have a Bobby's BBQ in Fountain Inn that is excellent and he learned his craft from Franklins.

Agree with this, but others are VERY similar if not the same (and less of a line). I would divulge the couple names in particular, but want to have easy access when I land Friday 😎.

Franklin BBQ has legitimately the best BBQ brisket in the world, but the lines are long. If you can get in it is exceptional.

I have had Franklins times, and I cannot imagine any being better. I have had the Brisket, pork and ribs. All good, but the Brisket is so amazing, The tater salad is really good as well. I really like tater salad and taste them everywhere I go

If you want Franklin's BBQ the key is to order it now. Then just go pick it up and eat else where.

Absolutely not

Brisket is not a good you can get takeaway. The quality degrades rapidly every second after it has been cut

Best BBQ in Austin is actually out in Lockhart.

Black's
then
Smitty's
then
Kreuz's Market.

If you'd rather drive a little less, head out to Driftwood and enjoy some Salt Lick.

But if you're afoot, may as well head down to Cooper's Pit on Congress. Franklin's is an overrated tourist trap. I was always partial to Cooper's.

Other fun food spots:
El Arroyo over off West 6th for good, cheap tex-mex.

Dirty Martin's is right on Guadalupe and is like a Mac's Drive-In but bigger.

Posse East on Duval is right near DKR. Think Texas' version of Esso.

Have a great trip and andale Tigers.

I don't think we're gonna need the security cameras for this next part.

I have co-workers who live in Austin...

and I have been there for work several times.

Terry Blacks is good but its always crowded.

My second preference would be LaBarbaque. It's a little off the radar but really good too.

Franklins and Styles Switch are two other good options.

I don't want to give anyone 'bum' information. But there are two nuclear plants in Texas, Comanche Peak (near Dallas) and the South Texas Project (in the Matagorta Bay area.)

I have been to both of these plants during outages and I came away believing there was not a pig in the state of Texas.
I hope you like Brisket or some type of beef bar b que. I never found any pork bar b que in Texas. If I remember my history wright, pig farmers and cattle farmers never got along.

Confessions of a Texan:

Pigs in Texas if caught in the open are treated like pests, shot, left to the coyotes. All I ever knew was brisket and the occasional mess of ribs.

So I had to adjust to pig bbq when I married a Carolina gal.

But as the years have passed, I've come to realize that pig bbq, especially the rib part of the pig, when done right is infinitely tastier and milder than its beef counterpart.

Beef bbq, overall, is so rich it's best taken in small doses. Maybe a slice of good brisket and a sausage or two is about all I've ever been able to muster. Maybe a hunk of cheddar and some jalapeno's to cut the richness.

Smitty’s in Lockhart if you are willing to drive.

In Austin I highly recommend Leroy and Lewis. Go early and get the bacon rib. They only make about 30 total ribs each Saturday. The smoked beef cheek, brisket and the burger are also really good.

You also must go to Discada and get some of their street tacos. They only make one kind but it is the best taco I’ve ever had.

Interstellar BBQ. Rated #2 BBQ by Texas Monthly magazine AND rated by Michelin guide.

Most of the other recommendations are very good, but if you want the best, go to Interstellar.

Salt Lick is solid. You can get the family style option and leave happy and miserable at the same time.

The Salt Lick is awesome. Used to go there all the time as a kid and it’s where we’d always have our football banquets.

It's not BBQ; It's roasted/smoked beef.
