Abandoning the run (that was eating a$$clown alive) cost us dearly.

Amen!
Its funny I re-watched that game a couple of days ago. And yes, the abandonment of the run was obvious, but it was also obvious that TB got impatient. He threw up 3 horrible balls and that IMO is what hurt us. There were a lot of dropped balls in that game too.
Outside of that, out MLB's looked confused all game long.

He got hurried much worse in the LSU game but kept his composure and that was a key difference.

T-net when Clemson completely reversed its offense for the entire year to give the ball to Ellington 25 times vs SC which had shutdown every rushing attack they played in 2012 except for LSU in Baton Rouge when they were missing Quarles and Jerideau.
This place would have imploded with rage that they had not used Hopkins\Watkins\Ford against an "overmatched" SC secondary, but it would have made for a more believable excuse than Clemson should have Bama-ed SC defense with its running game.
Clemson lost to SC because they could not block SC DL, Clemson WRs could not beat SC CBs in press cover and the defense could not get SC off the field.
SC is a bad matchup currently for Clemson but UGA is not the same team as SC.

We ran the ball in the 1st quarter part of the second, we had no problem with your line or secondary whatso ever.

Not because Clowney got all those sacks, it was because the D couldn't give Tajh the ball back. With 15 minutes of TOP, Tajh scored 17 points. Had TOP been 50/50, we'd have scored 34, they'd have scored less and it would have been a somewhat lopsided win for us.
I almost wish their D was the reason we lost. That's explainable; they were solid last year. Losing to that Lattimore-less, rag-tag offense was just embarrassing. No way in #### Venables lets THAT happen again. He'll be ready for both Shaw AND Thompson, and we'll beat a coot team that should be very similar to last year's, if not worse. Them only returning two from their front seven with zero LBs has me looking forward to kicking down the door at the cockroach.

Tapes are only good for giving an idea

of how a team or player might play, the one watching was not the one on the tape most of the time. I would say CM could call the same play 10 times in a row and there would not be 2 run the same way with every player

got a handful of possessions. We did not score every time we had the ball against LSU, but the defense did get us the ball back. If we get 8 stops against South Carolina I guarantee you a win!!

We lost also b/c of a poor blocking game plan vs Clowney
Aug 1, 2013, 8:34 AM
|
|
Dabo and Morris were sipping the Kool-aid of our offensive line since Boyd was the least sacked QB in the ACC. They treated Clowney like he was just another player and basically single blocked him most of the game. Every other team that plays SCar chips or doubles him with a RB or a TE. It was a very poor blocking game plan IMO.

From a sack. Can't see them doing much qb run b y design in non conference opener. That is how the coots beat us more so than us abandoning the run

UGA doesn't have the same style of offense as SCar
Aug 1, 2013, 9:21 AM
|
|
SCars offense did more to stop us than their defense. They dominated TOP in the 2nd half and got most of that on 2 drives.
UGA is more balanced on offense. But their style of running is more big play. Gurley and Marshall are not 3 yards and a cloud of dust. They are break for 7 yards or more. That lends itself to significant yards and points, but not "clock control." I don't see UGA being able to use their offense to keep our offense off the field.
FSU is more similar to UGA on the offensive side of the ball and one they should study.

1. couldn't establish the run. 2. couldn't block a 4 man rush. 3. couldn't cover their receivers.
a lot is said that Thompson's running killed us, but he actually had 310yds passing to Tajh's 183yds. & he threw 3tds to Tajh's 1. & he threw 1 INT, where Tajh threw 2.

the Dawg game. We were favored against coots, at home, etc. Huge, huge, game and fell flat. Surely Tajh has got that game out of his system.

We could not stop their second string QB or their second string RB. Also, we lacked the winning attitude that is needed to beat good teams. Not enough swagger.
I'm just hoping we improve ALL of that this year, or it'll be 5-in-a-row before we possibly beat them again.

So sick of people saying
Aug 1, 2013, 12:04 PM
|
|
that we lost because we abandoned the run game. We actually ran the ball 50% of the plays in the second half (9 out of 21 plays) and 50% of the plays the first half (20 out of 40 plays). We also ran the ball 50% for the entire game against LSU (50 out of 100). One of the idiots on 104.9 said this once and now everybody walks around repeating it.
We lost because our D could not get off the field and Sammy and Nuk (minus one spectacular play) had games to forget.

how many of those "runs" were tajh running on pass play break down?
How many times did ellington run in the second half?
If you're going to let facts get in our way then use some decent one's.

Sacks and scrambles are passing plays. Fact: we ran the ball the same amount the second half as the first which was the same amount against lsu.

wrong. sacks take away from rushing yards, so how do they
Aug 2, 2013, 5:28 AM

count as passing plays ? i know the idea is that they were going to pass, but they didn't (on the sacks, anyways) on the scrambles, the qb could STILL run OR pass, as long as he's behind the los, they (scrambles)have an effect on a play, but they are not THE play.

Try to keep up. We're not talking about yards or production. We are talking about quantity of called pass plays vs. Quantity of Called run plays. It was remarkably consistent throughout entire usc and lsu game.

The main reason I see that Clemson beat LSU but not USCjr is the opposing offensive lines. Clemson's front seven was able to beat up and wear out LSU's OL, but USCjr's group did a better job of getting a push and protecting the QB. That's the main reason Clemson was able to force three and outs on LSU and not so much on the Coots.

Abandoned the run game for the short pass for what reason exactly? That loss was Chad Morris' fault.

That was a coaching decision and it was poor.

And where did I say anything about wanting to get rid of Morris?
