From what I have heard from my Alabama sources, this is correct. Also the same for Will Anderson

If a player quits before the final game of the season (unless a documented injury) the player should be required to reimburse the school for the cost of the full ride scholarship for the year they they quit. They want all the perks but no accountability

getting injured, why didn't they just skip the whole year? After all, they would've been 12 times more likely to get injured in the regular season, than in one bowl game!

Because they didn't make the playoffs

Why would they risk one more game for Kansas State? Wouldn't be surprised if we have some guys not play against Tenn (and same for them). 12 team playoff was necessary for the game YESTERDAY! Glad it finally happened, and I can't believe the Rose bowl is what was holding it up. Bowl game luster is a thing of the past. The only constant is change.

Guess I’m just a different breed. If my team is playing then if I’m healthy then I’m playing. Personally I would feel like I quit my team. You played 12-13 games with the same risk in my mind. I just want to win I don’t care who they line up on the other side.
Starting to think they already have agents and actually are no longer eligible to play.

Good Question?? If a player sits out his teams BG when does his scholarship benefits, obligations from the school and ability to be a part of the team ends. When does NIL end if the player or players are sitting out of their teams BG.???

They already have agents and that doesn’t make you ineligible.
An individual shall be ineligible for participation in an intercollegiate sport if he or she ever has agreed (orally or in writing) to be represented by an agent for the purpose of marketing his or her athletics ability or reputation in that sport.

I think we enjoyed the last actual college football model in 2019. It’s like almost anything goes . It’s like Dodge City on a Saturday Night!
The wild wild world of what use to be known as College Football. Really Sad.
I read where 81 so called college football ball programs are going to bowl games. That’s 60 to 70 percent of all college programs.
Crazy times!

Like I say if I had done played 12-13 games if one more gets me then I guess it was not meant to be.
I’m a different breed it really would not be up for discussion.
How many Clemson guys have ever sat out a bowl game. Small number of folks actually do it and kudos to those kids.
Crazy this never was a thing back in the day and I do not remember in recent history a guy lost out on millions because he played in their bowl game.

Jaylon Smith from ND at the end of 2015 season

His devastating knee injury (multiple ligament tears and nerve damage) was one of the major catalysts behind top players sitting out bowls. Jake Butt, TE from Michigan, also suffered a torn ACL in the OB vs FSU the following year. He wasn't as big of a prospect as Smith, but he was a projected 2nd-3rd round pick that fell into the 5th round.

In particular, the incredibly brutal Jaylon Smith injury had a profound effect on how projected high draft choices viewed playing in bowl games.
IMO, anyone projected in the top 15-20 should sit out non-CFP bowl games. The CFP has exposed the other bowls for what they really are: Additional practice time for player development the following season. This should be of no interest for players who have legit chances at an NFL career.
With the CFP expanding from 3 to 11 games, the earlier bowls become even more irrelevant.

Those are pretty low odds if only 2 players received a career ending injury . Chances are that knee was on the verge of a blow out. It could have happened playing basketball at his home.

You say that now. I would say the same right now. But would you feel the same when an agent gives you your draft projection and points out that you're jeopardizing XX millions of dollars in exchange for the chance to "win" a bowl game that no one cares about on your team. You're lying to yourself.
And they can't forbid players from having agents after the SCOTUS ruling. The only rules the NCAA can enforce are qualifications agents must have.

and that's totally fine. It's not morally wrong for players to opt out though when there are literally millions of dollars on the line. I love football, but there are many other things that are more important to me than that.

Their teammates support them not playing. Also, they family to worry about over playing in a meaningless bowl game. You would probably sit out as well.

MoneyMike23 you’re right about risking 1 more game but can you tell me of a player who played in his teams BG lost an NFL career or lost millions due to a BG injury.
They could be injured just living each day.

They could be injured playing golf, standing on the sidelines, training for the NFL. IMO it’s a selfish greedy move by Bama’s QB to bail on his teammate’s. Players that made him look good at their risk of injury during the season.

How long before players start opting out of regular season games once their team is effectively eliminated from playoff contention? (It may have already happened and I just don’t know it.)

I'm wondering if Saban's iron fist style is starting to wear thin with today's players. Perhaps the GOAT is losing a bit of his grip? I'm sure some would accuse Dabo of perhaps falling into that same trap as well. It is hard to stay hungry and humble when you've had so much success.
One of the pitfalls of life I guess...

He should skip Bill. Young's been injured much of year. And he's much smaller than Klubnik who so many of our fans believe is too small to play.

Both are top 3 picks. No reason to announce this early on. Better for them to avoid the issue, let fans realize it on their own so there will be no impact on people's emotions when they make it official.
Heh, must be a bummer for Alabama fans to see how the rest of CFB fans live.

If it’s true it frustrate’s me because these guys are receiving a scholarship, NIL money and $$ handshakes. Basically, they are getting so many benefits just to prepare for the NFL. College football programs are the NFL’s minor league version of how MLB is set up. With help from the spineless NCAA they help the NCAA run big dollar minor football league called College Football.
These are very selfish players who sit out BG’s and bail on their teams.
Can’t imagine all of the financial kick backs and closed door meetings in smoke filled rooms. Reminds me of the Mafia! Lol
