Beating LSU = Natty bound?

Well, it’s a brave new world. 12 teams creates more chances but I’m confident that we MUST beat LSU in order to have a solid chance at the Natty.

Look back at our last runs: a win over Auburn in game 1 (‘16 natty) and a win over TA&M in game two (‘18 natty) helped launch the snowball and in the eight direction.

Contrast that with losses against UGA/Duke in recent starts and you’ll see the tale of two different seasons.

I’m not saying winning against LSU = Winning a Natty. But I am saying winning against LSU is necessary for making a Natty.

I know that that is not technically true (we can still win out after a loss) but my recency bias says this one MEANS A LOT.

Tigers get it done at home in a close on: 31-27.

I wouldn’t say Natty bound, but the hype train will take off with an early season LSU win. This goes for either team. It’s the prime time ESPN crew game.

And a loss would???***

Good post.

LSU has a ton of talent and a good coach.
They have underachieved lately. Great things are expected of them this season.

In the first game of the season, I think Clemson has more experience as to game day.
LSU coming here for a night game certainly helps.

Neither team "must win" to get into the Playoffs, but it is a huge help if not winning the conference.

Offense and Riley will have to carry us early.

No , not necessarily. But they do control their own destiny.

We will be favored in every remaining game.

A loss will be considered an upset and we will fall in the polls. And we should

The winner of the Texas / OhioSt game will be in a similar position

However I do believe if Cade is to win the Heisman he must outplay Nussmeier head to head.

Every winner has their " Heisman moment ". This is Cades opportunity.

Cade is the last one I worry as to.
He only needs to be himself.

I worry more as to this great "D" line we have this year. I am sure it is that, but they might need time to jell.

Cade will be fine. I'm not worried about him.

This game , among other things , is a head to head matchup with two quarterbacks in the Heisman race.

If Cade outplays Nussmeier it most likely means we won the game.

Our kicking game concerns me the most.

Not just at punter , but fixing that leak on the left side of our FG kicking attempts.
If they put Scheff over there that's a start ( as long as he isn't flagged for a false start ).

Next I worry with our running game. I believe EZ and Davidson should carry the load.

I'm not convinced Randall ( although I love his size between tackles ) can't be an every down back that some are hoping he is.

I think LSU would have success punching the ball out on a back that is just getting settled into a new position. Overthinking perhaps but I would rather play it safe due to the intangibles like fumbles oftentimes deciding the outcome.

QB play and turnovers will determine the game.

I can't help but believe the whole team is so much better off than even last year. The new coaches on defense and oline...I can't help but believe the changes will be clearly noticed with prior form returning.

If you lose the game you have less control of your own destiny.

That should go without saying but here we are.

That's not true at all. If we win the ACC, we are in the CFP with an autobid. Heck if we lose to LSU and sweep the rest of the season, we are likely a top 4 team.

It is absolutely true.

With each loss you incrementally lose control of your destiny

You can't get to two , three losses are more until you have the first.

I never mentioned winning the ACC or CFP.

Which team has more control of their destiny ?

An unbeaten team or a team with one or more losses ?

Let's not pretend losses don't matter. Absurd

Do you not realize that there are automatic bids to the CFP? That - and the ACC title - are the "destiny" we are after. If not the CFP, what are we trying to win for? What destiny are you talking about?

Not me. I dream bigger.

I want to win it all.

I'm not content with an ACC championship or simply a bid to the playoffs.

Do you not realize an undefeated team has a greater likelihood of getting a bid than one with losses ?

You don't seem to understand "control". If we lose to LSU, it is still 100% in our control to win the national championship. Literally 100%.

With each loss you incrementally lose " control ".

That is an undeniable and irrefutable truth.

Do you deny that statement ?

Yes, it's possible

Why ? Because we lost a game.
