rankings, with how many of those actually wound up making it each year.
2014 Initial: Miss. State, Florida State, Auburn, Ole Miss Florida State made it.
2015 Initial: Clemson, LSU, Ohio State, Alabama Clemson and Alabama made it.
2016 Initial: Alabama, Clemson, Michigan, Texas A&M Alabama and Clemson made it.
2017 Initial: Georgia, Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson Georgia, Alabama, and Clemson made it.
2018 Initial: Alabama, Clemson, LSU, Notre Dame Alabama, Clemson, and Notre Dame made it.
2019 Initial: Ohio State, LSU, Alabama, Penn State Ohio State and LSU made it.
2020 Initial: Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson, Ohio State All four made it, in different order.
2021 Initial: Georgia, Alabama, Michigan State, Oregon Georgia and Alabama made it.
So, of 32 possibilities in the initial rankings, only 19 made the final rankings, or 59.375%. Now, the CFP Committee HAS gotten better in recent years, or the teams have separated themselves, as in the last FOUR years, 11 of 16, or 68.75%, have made it into the Final Four.

FSU made it in 2014, got defeated by Oregon in the semis. I agree though the committee has gotten a lot better.

No that's not what this says. Almost all of them were in the rankings, they just weren't in the initial top 4.

While interesting, and encouraging to Clemson (I think)...this is not surprising. The CFP rankings can only account for past performance. Given that they come out 3/4 the way through the season, you are of course going to have a different group at the end of the season. Another way of saying it - they are not "predicting" who will make it, but rather who would make it at this point in time. Very different.

Good stuff. Bear in mind that 2020 was much more of a beauty contest as some teams made the playoffs with only playing half their schedule
