Baylor should have substituted players when TCU lined up

Nov 19, 2022, 3:23 PM

and they could’ve run the clock out.

Because TCU subbed the whole special teams, Baylor could’ve subbed their defense. The refs have to allow the defense to sub if the offense subs.

Lots of coaching errors by both teams. TCU coach was an idiot for clock mgt.

Not sure that’s on the coaches. The ref is supposed to go stand over the ball and not let it be snapped for 10 seconds right?

I was yelling that at my TV real time. Unbelievable miss by the officials.

No, it's 3 seconds. That is, if the offense substitutes, the official stands over the ball for 3 seconds. If the defense doesn't start to substitute in that time, he moves and the offense can snap it. OP is right...defense should've substituted.

Baylor began the substitution at 15 seconds to go. The defense can't take their sweet time getting on the field. If they take too long, either the offense snaps without the defense set or the defense is offsides trying to get over to the line. The general rule is the ref will stand over the ball for 3 seconds to allow the defense to substitute.

refs stand over the ball all the time

Nov 19, 2022, 3:40 PM

letting the other team take 10 or so seconds off the clock getting subs in

Like I said, the kicking team began running on the field at about 15 seconds. The defense is allowed to substitute but not at their leisure. Even if ten seconds is allowed that gives them 5 to get set and kick, which is what happened.

Officiating in both the TCU and Michigan games were pretty blatantly in favor of the playoff-bound teams.
