Bakich Teams....

Are quite good in the regular season, and quite bad in the post-season. He and the entire program better end this trend next year, or he will be on the hot seat. What amazes me is that Tiger baseball is seventh all-time in wins (in the nation) and yet has not come very close to winning it all even once. Recruiting? Development? Execution? Managing? All of these areas have to improve.

I think he and the coaches can do it, but it might take 2-3 more years to become a serious national contender. I think Garris, Mahlstedt, and Cannarella are gone. Not sure about anyone else. But I am pretty certain Coach Bakich needs to get some great pitchers. What we saw over the last month was a horror show. The hitting needs to improve also. Fielding too. Everything, really. It will take some time.

The Tigers gave up 152 runs in the last 20 games, or 7.6 per game. Way too much. The offense generated 127 runs over the same span, or 6.35 per game. It seems to me that pitching has to be the major area of concern

We will see what Bakich is all about in the next 12 months. The way we played the last month of the season was just bad. If we just got beat by a real hot 2 seed we could probably all live with the result because that’s happened before, but good baseball programs don’t fall apart like that. They folded like a cheap beach chair and showed no fight when they got down.

If this was football and Dabo fell apart like that we’d see changes for sure. Will Bakich do the same? I think everything needs to be on the table and needs to be evaluated and we will definitely see what he’s all about.

I agree. He's got to recruit like crazy over the next 8-9 months and come up with some blue chippers, as opposed to having a chip on their shoulders (Erik's reference to his players after UNC took the Tigers to the woodshed).

He’s got to hit the portal. 2025 class is already signed. 2026 class is mostly buttoned up. So it’s portal or bust and hope that some of the 2025 signees are immediate impact guys.

can any of you baseball experts name the players that were to be counted on greatly that never made the field or made it late in the year.

If you are saying the depth was lacking, no doubt about it. Coach needs to recruit or get excellent players from the portal. It can be done, though not necessarily very easy to do.

I am not sure what you’re getting at. But name on player who didn’t get on the field right away that turned into a star? Billy Amick.

Also, I’m talking about how we need to focus on retaining the 2025 class—the guys who move on to campus this month that will play next year. And adding to the 2026 class although many of the spots are already filled.

Have to do it in all areas. The baseball program is more like the bball one, as opposed to football, where Dabo can recruit at a high level. So if, as you say, recruiting for the next year is pretty much done, than Coach is going to have to hot the portal really hard and find some diamonds.

You just really have to chalk this loss up to last night when we had our chance. Very few times has a team come back in the losers bracket and won 3 in a row and I would have bet a pretty penny that neither WV or Kentucky could have done it if we had won last night. If is a huge word.

I'm more concerned about the last 20 games, a bigger sample. Just terrible baseball by the Tigers. Hopefully, Coach Bakich can add more depth to the squad for next year.

He is getting the best players he can get to Clemson. As of yet, we do not know what commitment the university has to getting money to the players just so that they can all basically be on scholarship. He is still competing with schools like Vanderbilt whose entire roster is on scholarship. If you have listened to Bakich all year he is basically begging our fans to contribute to the NIL funds that support baseball. I don't think there is anything that any of our baseball expert fans here can tell Eric anything that he doesn't already know.

Not sure about that. I don't know anyone who has praised him all that much. He simply needs to get better players. It can be done. If he does, Clemson will make deeper post-season runs.

And/Or we have some late bloomers that break out next year.

Sometimes they have a late growth spurt or hit the weight room. Maybe a few of our low 90s guys become mid to high 90s guys. The Upstate SP that touched 95 was maxing out at 88 in HS. Same with hitters. Some of them just need a little time to adjust and get stronger. I certainly think Priest and Gaffney both have better seasons. Wentworth, McLaddie and Purify also.
