Bakich is a hellofa coach, but

9

Feb 28, 2023, 6:34 PM

He isn’t going to fix this mess overnight. The program declined precipitously under Jack and got worse under Monte. You don’t fix that overnight.

Bakich is the guy for the job. And I think in 3 to 5 years we will be in Omaha.

I also think he’s the coach that will get us our first CWS title. But it’s going to take a little patience.

But it’s gonna take a few years to get this thing turned around.

No two teams are ever the same year to year

Feb 28, 2023, 7:11 PM

Teams even evolve over the course of a season.

Also, we have a new pitching coach that’s working to fixing the problems we have had for years. That takes time.

A one year turnaround would be awesome but realistically it isn’t happening. Like to see solid improvement from year one to two, then I’ll start raising my expectations and thinking about seeing Clemson in Omaha. Go Tigers!

He does not have 3-5 years. This time next year you will see big improvement- maybe before this year is out. Long season-everybody needs to calm down.

Like your take. I also think year 3 is when we can possibly get our hopes up. I think a lot of good can happen this year but we’re definitely going to see some deflating results.

So far, the biggest improvement is going to have to be in pitching and I am not sure that is something you can turn around overnight. We just have to hope the pitchers we have can improve under the new pitching coach and we can get some players that can come in and help us next year. I'm in no way giving up on this year's team and hope to see gradual improvement.

Yall act like Monty didn't have good teams lol. We had some really good teams. We lost in the post season is why he is gone.

Lee couldn’t even make the postseason towards the end of his tenure. Feels like it’s gonna be a long season. We are 4-4 against non Power 5 competition. That is the ugly truth currently.

For all those that think Monte left no talent, you need to go back and read Backich's comments in a Jan 20th interview. He said he had to give the previous staff credit for the talent left to him and that 1-40 it was more talent than any team he had at Michigan.

He may want to revisit that interview since he has seen the team against somebody not in orange or purple.

And discipline issues. That doesn’t get fixed overnight. Good God you guys need to relax!

Dabo deserves a lot of criticism for the past two years. That’s 100% on him and his decisions. Brownell just flat out sucks. But Jack left baseball in shambles and so did Monte. Some of you folks love revisionist history. It’s like you have amnesia.

Yes because a coach coming in to a school will always trash a peer and/or his current players.

It’s amazing that some people function on a daily basis.

Monte's gone because he didn't make the NCAA tournament.

I agree but our base running is abysmal and has cost us terribly so far. It doesn’t take talent to run the bases but it does take discipline and we don’t have that.

Bakich and Dabo hurt themselves and inflate fans’ expectations. Pre-season they try and generate enthusiasm or help team confidence so they brag on how great team or particular players will perform. Change tactics. Don't oversell. Be humble. No need to generate enthusiasm. We love these teams.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How do people keep saying the same incorrect thing?

The program reached its zenith under Jack. Highest final rankings, best CWS finishes, highest ratio of NCAA's, supers and CWS.

The "decline" was from the program height under his tenure. Summing up Jack's tenure as a decline is obviously misguided and ridiculous.

And his lowpoint, was better than nearly every other era of Clemson baseball. And it was still in the upper quadrant of college baseball.

We experienced a genuine decline under Monte, after Jack was fired.

Sometimes you have to tear it down and build it back up. The last few years Clemson has been a undisciplined team. They never could hit with 2 strikes. They constantly would strikeout looking at strke 3. Players swinging for the fences and constantly striking out. It's going to take a while to change the mindset. They can still have a great year.

Lost in all of this is the idea that maybe UCF is just that good. If anyone is familiar with the 11Point7 podcast rthey do Mid-Major rankings and have UCF as the second best Mid-Major in America, behind only ECU and ahead of Grand Canyton who just beat Tennessee last week. One of the guys on the podcast also said that he thinks the UCF-Clemson series says more about how good UCF is and not how bad Clemson is and went as far as to say that he thinks Clemson will win the South Carolina series... now I am not ready to get on board with that, but if we take 2 of 3 from the Chickens the fanbase will turn around REAL quick.

Mar 1, 2023, 5:33 PM [ in reply to Re: Bakich is a hellofa coach, but ]

Not exactly a “mid- major”… kinda like Georgia State is at 51k and UGA is 32k.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: UCF has almost 70k students

Mar 2, 2023, 3:03 PM

They're considered a "Mid-Major" on the 11Point7 list because of their conference. However, I would argue that the AAC is actually more of a "Power" conference than the Big 10 in baseball.

We got to bring in the big bats we use to have. The state overhaul doesn't seem to produce like it use too, but hopefully we can get some big names out of state and up North. We use to have 4 or 5 long ball hitters and all but 1 or 2 guys batting .300 or better. This team is really young and alot of the FR look really promising. It's def going to take another year or 2 to get this thing rolling.
