Backyard Peach Tree: A tragedy. I have two peach trees. One produces early -

I never care for them. But one is a Georgia Belle, my favorite. They both put on buds pretty early this year, and then a cold snap hit. I did the best I could covering them with a blanket or two and putting a space heater out there to hopefully save some. I thought they were all going to die. Some buds were saved. Ended up with enough that I had to thin the Georgia Belle early on. Larvae took care of some of them, but by late May, it looked like, I'd end up with a few dozen.
On Wednesday, I picked one (seemed really early to be ready), and it was probably the best peach I've ever had.
Came home from work today with plans of picking most or all of them, and they were ALL GONE. Vanished. There are probably four or five under the tree, but no other. Tree is completely barren. ### could have eaten/taken? Possum? Raccoons? squirrels?
Man...as much as it takes to see a peach through to production, this has been one disappointing day.
Any thoughts?

I had a tree split and saw the deer clean off all they could reach. Even standing on their hind legs at one point.

Heartfelt condolences. I have had a crop of persimmons disappear at once, and a mysterious disappearance of a crop of muscadines. I wish I at least had a trail camera to know what happened.

Squirrels, deer, etc will definitely take them but seems odd for them to all disappear at once.

I would spend a few hours this summer spreading mulch/compost around the trees and maybe even throw a few handfuls of fertilizer too for good measure... come back bigger and better next year

Plant you a couple of Contender peach trees. The best I have ever ate.

Just planted three peach trees and three apple trees this year for my zone (8). Hoping to have a crop in a few years but I will keep a close eye on critters that pursue them. Hate that happened to you.
We must protect these peaches!

Them, but they take a decent amount of preemptive fungicides and pesticides. Copper fungus spray and malathion are your friends!

Squirrels. They did the exact same thing to my fully loaded pear tree last year. This year, I took 6 inch pvc pipe & cut a seam piece out to fit the tree trunk. Drilled, zip tied together. Put old soap bars in the pipe by the trunk. Seems to be working. Good luck. They are destructive thieving little tree rats that will steal all kinds of fruit. They'll steal your blackberries too.
