Backups 'in-game performance' is vital info for coaches!

When we're able to get all these backups into the game and have on-film reactions to real time situations against unknown opposing players and gameplans, it's a tremendous help to our coaching staff. Next practices will be much more individualized and address specific issues & tendencies rather than theoretical instruction. This is how we gain 'quality depth' at all positions...not by buying an older (portal player) with different issues and tendencies.
Our coaches believe in OUR RECRUITS and what they know about them. They will coach-up who we have and help them fix problems and grow into the players they envisioned.

Personally, it's my belief that a HC should never pull any starters or 2nd team backups until the very end of the 3d quarter bc the longer those guys stay in and play against live action, the better they will become as a starter or 2nd team backups!!!

I am in agreement with most of your post. I do not believe that Understanding the tendencies of the third string offensive tackle is gonna make much difference come Playoff time.

To me, it’s not so much their tendencies as getting them live game experience that will be needed later in the longer season. Yes, there will be study on these players but their experience will be valuable as the season rolls. Go Tigers!

It’s also important for the coaches around the country who will be recruiting our backups during the portal season to see what these players can do

So we shouldn't play guys so others won't want them?

It's about keeping promises to boys who are too old to be considered boys and too young to be considered men by age alone. The term men is applied to guys that age due to their behavior and attitude and though they are still full of belief that the world is a fair place the soon learn that it's not.
Dabo is a bright and shining light in their lives by keeping his conditional promises 'If you work hard and do your best you will see the field. It's up to you, not me?'
Another big factor in backups playing early and often is keeping our starters health. You can probably get hurt sitting on the bench or standing on the sideline but that probability is miniscule compare to the probability you'll get hurt in a game and especially small if you're tired.
Substitutions keep starters healthy and rested. That's one of the factors that drives Dabo's motivation to substitute.
There is a change but it may take a few years to decipher why it's changed. Dabo is opening the playbook way more early and often that he previously did, it so seems. I've given this some thought but I'll hold my opinion for now in the uncertainty I have about it.
