Back to work for Elliott

Jan 14, 2020, 2:27 AM

We need to do some serious self scouting. Play design, game planning, and in game calls need a fresh coat of paint. You can’t always out athlete good teams. And it’s ok to rush the ball multiple times in a row. 27 ppg avg in this playoff was weak w our Offensive talent.....and 25 vs that D tonight is no bueno

Maybe moving Streeter to passing game coordinator might help but it's time to upgrade our playbook some

we've got to find a WR like Chase or Jeudy***

Not really. Tee is close but not an All-American. And he is

Jan 14, 2020, 3:33 AM

the only receiver we have to even make a 3 deep All-ACC team. There's probably 8 or more receivers out there better than Tee. To name a few that made some All American teams--Chase, Jeudy, CD Lamb, DaVonta Smith, Lynn Bowden, Omar Bayless, Rashod Bateman, Michael Pittman, Henry Ruggs.
Tee is great and wouldn't trade him for anybody but i'm talking about a game breaker, game changing burner like Jeudy and or Chase and some of the bama guys.

Thank you, thank you! Our WR’s need some diversity. It seems all we recruit are big, long guys who can out jump everyone. Amari is really the only guy who contributes who isn’t a clone of someone else. Tee-Ross-Ngata-Ladson-Overton all play the same brand of receiver. And now EJ Williams and Ajou are similar to what we already have, as well. The guys we have are talented, no doubt, but there just needs to be some diversity. I hope future recruiting reflects that

Powell is the receiver we need to blossom next year. He needs to be in that slot position and use his speed.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Don’t see it happening. Doesn’t get open, can’t catch

Jan 14, 2020, 11:07 PM

Starters will be ... Ross, Ngata/Ladson and Amari Rogers.

Last time I looked , our Defense gave up 42. Elliott doesn't coach the defense.

Re: Back to work for Elliott

Jan 14, 2020, 6:35 AM

Your defense did as well as it could given this mismatch tbh.. your offense did them no favors by giving up on the run and allowing your defense to stay on the field way too long.

The first half i was impressed by your D. Burrow tossed a few dimes which you couldnt do much about, and they ran a quick 7 at the end of the half when you played soft. But in the second half they just got to tired from running a track meet non stop.

Your D reminded me of ours when we played you in '16. Played a solid 40 minutes but just got tired and deflated from the offense not keeping the ball/scoring enough.

The targeting ejection was huge too as the game was still close at the point. Targeting needs a major overhaul; when you play at this level, losing just 1 starter makes a huge difference.
When we lost Wade i told my wife the game was over right then and there because our backup dbs were very underwhelming and we needed all of them on the field to carry our trash linebackers.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree. You don't have to like the rule but in both

Jan 14, 2020, 6:43 AM

instances it was textbook targeting. Hopefully they make a Targeting A and Targeting B penalty where one is an ejection and one is not.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

wade would have been blatant targeting imo, Skalski not

We had plenty of stops. Yes, Trevor was off, but ETN was killing it. Is it against the rules to run the ball twice in a row?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Hard to keep up or stay fresh on D...

Jan 14, 2020, 6:51 AM [ in reply to Re: Back to work for Elliott ]

if the offense goes 3nOut or scores in 3 plays. We couldn't sustain a drive unless we got a penalty. Out offensive play calling was terrible tonight then add to that Tlaw was just off. Probably the worst I have ever seen him consistently throw the ball, even in HS.

Our D keep the ball on LSU side the field for the first ten minutes of the game and we failed to make hay. To quote Dabo, we didn’t play complimentary FB last night. TBH, we made more stops last night than I expected. 25 points for our O vs that mid tier D was an epic fail

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah it was terrible. We stubbornly tried to attack the edge

Jan 14, 2020, 5:06 PM

against a talented, fast defense playing press cover-2. We gassed their interior lineman after the first TD drive and we should have gashed them with quick-hitting runs. Instead every play takes five minutes to develop and we go east and west. Not very bright.

Jan 14, 2020, 5:51 PM

those were at midfield or even in LSU territory. That not only stopped drives, but it put LSU offense back on the field. That is the same stat that killed Bama in their 2 title game losses to us. I agree with someone in this thread that said we need to jazz p the playbook a little.

One thing I have noticed this season, in spite of our great passing numbers, when we complete a pass the ball has to thread the needle. We are well covered. When other teams complete a pass, the receiver is wide open.

Proud of this team and beyond words. A #2 team in the final poll, but there are always things to work on.

Galloway looked great last night by the way.

Jan 14, 2020, 10:36 PM

I've been saying it all year..... that's because we don't have a speed burner like Jeudy or a 3rd down possession receiver like Renfrow. All our receivers are the tall jump ball type receivers except for Amari. And Amari, although fast doesn't run good routes like Hunter did.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's setup by poor calls on 2nd down typically.

Jan 14, 2020, 11:02 PM [ in reply to 1 for 11 on 3rd downs is what stands out to me. Many of ]

And usually the coaches can fall back on their superstar QB to get us out of third down situations. But not when he's a little off. Not a knock on TL.
