Automobile question?

My car sat for 5 weeks when my wife was in France. After her return it wouldn't start and couldn't be jumped so I replaced the battery. Started fine for about a week. Now in order to start it I have to jerk the wheel clockwise at the same time or else it does nothing when the ignition is turned.
What is the problem? Short? Seems to be something to do with the steering wheel lock.

Never had any serious problems with it. Original clutch and has had no engine or transmission work.

I've got a car that's paid for and has both required and requires very little service. Why would I want or need another car?
My wife's car is 12 years old. We've not made a car payment in 7 years.

jerked the wheel clockwise? What happens if you try CCW? If we're gonna help you, you need to give us more info.
Also, try it with your wife sitting naked on the hood. Take video so we can analyze the respone from your auto.
