Went there many moons ago for a business case competition when getting my MBA.

Went to sixth street the night before the competition for a couple of drinks and just to check out the scenery. We stayed out way past a couple of drinks.

We were in rough shape the next day but so were many of the other teams. Got an honorable mention which was something.

Going out was worth it.

Austin is home to several home-grown gangs as well as some of the west coast gangs. It like the Memphis of the South.

Worked all the golf courses in Austin for 20 years and spent a lotsa time there. In the late 70's it was an overgrown college town with a lot of state government types, and hippies from the 60's hanging around. All the hippies aged and went into government work and high tech jobs poured in. Now Austin is one of the most liberal cities in the country. It is a big city with the standard big city problems. Not the safe little college scene it use to be, with Darrell Royal and Willie Nelson always around at one of the golf courses. 6th Street is still there with great music and dining, ya just have to be careful.

We are staying in San Antonio and driving up… little over an hr out on north side!! Airfare much better than getting into Austin.. about 1/2 the cost…GO TIGERS!!!
