I was doing some reading on the 5th year thing and I’d be surprised if anything is implemented for 2025. Only 53% of coaches are in favor (would have thought this would be near unanimous) and they’re trying to push for a 5th year only if you’ve stayed 4th year at one school. It also appears to be that the push is for 5 years to play 5 but there are factions pushing for 6 to play 5 and others wanting to simply modify red shirt rules to allow more playing time. Seems way too far apart to expect a consensus to emerge from the spring meeting. But God knows Brownell has a horseshoe up his behind.

We never really got to see him play often, but I would not be surprised if he ends up at a small d1 or gets no playing time at another above average team. He might end up like Godfrey except even less playing time.

He was a top 150 player per on3 composite which makes him the 3rd highest rated player on the team out of high school.

On that site, but generally he wasn't considered that highly. He was the 55th SF on 247. We have way better talent. He is just a redshirt frosh anyway who had an injury his freshman year. It's not like we are squandering talent.

Unless JZ comes back we’re returning virtually nothing next year. Asa was the only signee in his class. Why wasn’t he developed better, why was he the only signee? Having zero recruits in 2010 was long used as an excuse for an extended rebuild when Brownell took over. Now we’re staring at the same situation going into year 16.

Everything builds up to March.
And then we’re a complete NO-SHOW in March.

Players still had to sit out a year when transferring then. It was impossible to quickly bring in help when the previous coach left you with a bare cupboard.

Here’s the problem. In 2023-24 we had 16 players on the roster including 4 sophomore and 1 freshman. We returned some experienced players and augmented them with experience from the portal. What do you know, we make the tournament and make the Elite 8. Extensions all around if it isn’t working don’t fix it. We do the same again in 2024-25. We have 4 freshmen, a rs freshman, and sophomore. But the do t matter because we’re returning the Hunter bros and Schef. This is a nucleus that can be worked with and once again a couple of key pieces from the portal get us back to the tourney.
But now, because we’ve done zero development of recruits and we have no core left to build on. We are down to Dillon Hunter, Heidbreder, Christian Reeves, and some freshmen & redshirt freshmen that have never seen the floor. Hunter/Heidbreder/Reeves is not equal to Tyson/Hall/Hunter, Hall/Hunter/Schef and Hunter/Hunter/Schef.
