Are we seeing the last of the spring games?

Interesting article from CBSSports.com. It sadly makes sense with the way college football is going.

If this does become a trend among college programs, I would see Clemson - as long as Dabo is at the helm - be among the last to continue it. I don't think we've taken any big hits from transfers after the spring game, but I also don't keep up nearly as closely as many of you do.

Well a few years ago we had a 5th year CB that started for us in the spring game, then transferred to Uga and started against us in our first game of the season.

He was dismissed from the team. Not even close to tampering.

When the managing organizations cannot or will not regulate tampering, or require contracts beyond "my word is my bond" schools/teams have to do what they can to limit the damage. It really hurts the schools on the cusp of breaking into the top 25. They work hard at recruiting and player development and get denied the fruits of their labor.

How much does it cost to recruit a player not counting NIL? Flights around the country are not free. The coaches/recruiters time is not free. The planning and logicstics of visits either way is not free. That is just the actual damages incurred when a player gets poached. It does not count the intangibles like damage to the reputation of the program.

Think about the damage done to Marshall's football program when so many players transferred out that they had to cancel their bowl game appearance. That's real damage in terms of money from being in a bowl game, and then they might as well give up on getting much more than a 2 star recruit. Yet everyone walked away from them scottfree and clean as whistle when it is anything but clean.

For the teams at the bottom this will be a perennial cycle. Get a new up and coming coach, he is successful at developing 2 star recruits into playing like 3 and 4 star recruits..the coach gets poached and all the players leave as a result... It all just guarantees the the teams at the top stay there and the teams at the bottom stay where they are also. Is that competetive sports or a rigged good ole boy system?

I can see alot of schools just dumping football altogether as it does not make money and it does not recruit students. In total it is a negative cost benefit to them
