Are we ashamed as a fan base?

Sep 12, 2021, 10:47 AM

I always do my shopping on Sunday morning early, in the Spartanburg and Greenville area.
I have yet to see anyone yet with any Clemson apparel. Maybe I’m missing something but Just like the American flags were out right after 9/11 are we not going to be proud of the Tigers unless they win it all? I use ‘We’ as a general description and not trying to universalize it, as there are certainly a ton of loyal fans. It just is an observation and opinions are my own and could be totally off.

I’m not but unfortunately a lot of people don’t remember the bad times and think it’s a given to win every game by 60 against inferior teams. Also, they think Alabama is the only team that can compete with Clemson every year for National Championships. This team is still young and has a lot of room to improve, especially on offense. Hardly any experience at QB, RB and an o line that’s mediocre at best. Yet everyone thinks it’s a given they will show up and win another championship hands down. The ACC being awful doesn’t help either but I’m wearing my orange today.

Very good observation-
Been to Costco, Cabelas, Academy, Food Lion, And PSA and not one sighting of Tiger orange - that’s disappointing

Maybe y'all should try church at that time. My pastor is a Tiger fanatic!

Nope...
Most of us are very proud of our Tigers and expect them to only get better.

I do not think we are ashamed as a fan base. In fact maybe the opposite. IMO, maybe we are spoiled by the success we have seen with the emergency of Dabo Swinney. Yet our last 3 losses have come against Power 5 conference teams, and a 4th ( the loss to Notre Dame) came against a team draped in tradition.
Dabo once said if you want to be the best you have to beat the best.
So far this season we are 0-1 against a team from one of the Power 5 conferences and it was not a good loss.

While I agree with you, their win didn’t look all that impressive either, especially since they were playing a team without much of an OL. Here’s to hoping our IL makes big improvements in the coming weeks.

The losses have come against far more than just “Power 5” opponents…

Pretty sure they were all top 5 teams in the nation and all we’re away from Death Valley.

Really dude it was 10-3 we didn’t get blown out, I’m getting old and learning I don’t like fans of things I like. Clemson included.

I think that has more to do with ridiculous prices, the "Nike" manufacturing connection, and how younger people don't really show loyalty.

Unless it's for a selfie, Instagram, or TikTok video...young folks don't show colors.

When the Tigers have a not so good outing I ALWAYS wear my Tiger ORANGE to say I am with you during a time of disappointment. When they win I do not stick my TIGER ORANGE into other people's faces.
Try to stay humble in a loss or a win. The world has enough braggarts.GO TIGERS!!!

I am in the Atlanta area and all week long I saw 2 cars with UGA flags flying around the whole county. Usually see more just in my neighborhood.

Overheard a conversation last night from a couple of Georgia fans that they were so relieved that they got by Clemson the way they did.

Its what has me confused about what happened. Georgia was right for the taking and it was like Clemson didn't want to throw a few powerful punches that they could have thrown.

No way - I go out of my way to fly our flag and wear our colors after we lose.***

I flew cross-country last year day after tOSU loss and was rocking hat and tee.

Same with UGA this year. Flag is still up, wore colors around town all day Sunday. Two UGA fans in neighborhood too, lots of Buckeye fans.

Doing my part wearing Clemson stuff in Georgia after that loss.

Haven't gotten any snide comments yet (which surprises me!)

I travelled to Indy this week for business. The only comment I got was from a Delta flight attendant as I boarded the plane to come home Thursday evening wearing my Clemson covid mask (ugh). It wasn’t mean at all, just the good ol fashioned southern football rivalry that has existed since before every single person on this board was born. My reply was simply Go Tigers and she just smiled.

My wide and I go to Sam's club every Sunday to pick up what ever we nee d in groceries, and nobody there never has to guess what college FB team that I'm a fan of, that didn't change this Sunday morning, nor was I dressed any different last Sunday morning.

I've been a Tiger fan for 58 of my 68 years of life, and I have seen some pretty rough times as a Tiger fan, but I have never been ashamed of wearing my Tiger gear out in the public. Becoming a Clemson fan was my choice, and I haven't ever give a chit what anybody thought about it.

I was an All In Tiger fan long before Dabo ever brought winning at a high level to Tiger town, and if he left tomorrow, I would still be an All In Tiger fan, even if we went back to what our Tiger team use to be before Dabo. Any Tiger fan that don't feel that way, then you're not as good as a coot fan bc, they love their gamecocks, win or lose. It's tougher on them now with Clemson winning the way we do, but they still wear their gamecock gear, and they still fill that junk yard they go to watch their gamecocks play!!!!

I would imagine a public display of team loyalty is actually a bit easier when you’re a dyed in the wool coot. With them there is never an expectation of winning, so there is never much to be ashamed of when they don’t. Losing is the expected norm and of course any conference loss is viewed as a moral victory anyway. Ah, the benefits of a low bar and conference crutch brainwashing.

Ride through Clemson on a Sunday morning and yes you would be ashamed of the fan base. It takes a small army to clean up the trash left behind by the "fans".

I've had my two Clemson t-shirts on in Savannah, GA this weekend.

I tell the many Dawg fans I love my Tigers, and I'm married to a beautiful Dawg and the Dawgs deserved to win with two excellent Defenses and a slightly less crappy Game 1 UGA Offense. Nothing else to say.
