Honestly, no. Syracuse has played tougher competition and has the 21st ranked total offense in the country (SC is 106th). Syracuse has better QB and WRs, too. Defensively it is kind of a wash (SC 52nd and Cuse 73rd).

Considering the potent offenses in the sec east, the defense might be better.

Absolutely! In fact, I heard from a very reliable source that they're really just as good as our Tigers. We probably have little chance of beating them on their home field. At least that's what I heard. Go Tigers!

Cuse has a better OL and QB
SCU may have a little better defense than Cuse.
I think Cuse would beat the Coots. Cuse QB is a baller.

There were a number of factors in the Syracuse game
Nov 16, 2017, 1:02 PM
|
|
that came to light. These factors are not present in every game, hence the sentiment; "football isn't transitive."
I think the question that should be asked about the coots is will the same issues that plagued Clemson in the Syracuse game come to light on the 25th? -Injured QB with no serviceable backup -Poor defensive performance -Overall lack of motivation -Poor special teams -Poor gameplan (and lack of adjustments)
If any number of these things are present, Clemson loses.

That's an intelligent answer. I hope it doesn't go over the coot's head. Unfortunately for them I don't think a lot of the same factors will be present in Columbia November 25. The main two factors were an injured QB and lack of motivation. KB should be rested coming out of the Citadel game and their players/coaches talked enough trash since last year's massacre that I seriously doubt there will be a lack of motivation from what is a far superior group of athletes.

All the press and news conferences the week of the Syracuse
Nov 16, 2017, 3:00 PM

game talked about "getting to the bye week" and "getting rest."
I am concerned that the team will be looking ahead to Miami. In my twisted mind the most important game of the year is at the end of November. Lose that one and the season is tainted.

Nope Syracuse has played in a much tougher conference The ACC! The coots play in the anemic sec East. Plus they only played 1 or 2 teams with winning records. Eventually Fla and Tenn will be back up and give the coots the beating their use too. If it had not been for such a weak division and a weak conference the coots would never qualify for anything more than the Birmingham bowl against Kiffin who will eat their lunch.
I remember we beat them at WB 15 consecutive times. It was our home away from home.
The sec East is in chaos right now. The conference to beat right now is the ACC!!!

They both suck and Clemson shouldn't lose to either. The Cuse game was a fluke it can't happen 2 times in 1 season. If it does we might not be in as good a position as we thought.

Interesting note. IF somehow Clemson lost to South Carolina, they would have two losses on the season to teams they beat 54-0 and 56-7 the prior year.

If you look at the NCAA rankings...

as well as strength of schedule rankings, Cuse is not only better, they're significantly better.
The CUSE defensive ranking took a big hit following the loss to Wake.

If the OP is making the point that if Clemson could lose to Syracuse, then they could South Carolina as well then you're right. It's certainly not impossible for Clemson to lose to them, but it's also not very likely.
The Syracuse game was a combination of several things. Clemson came into the game with an injured QB, and that QB went down for good in the 2nd quarter. Add in that the game was on a Friday night right before the bye week, and that Clemson was favored by 20+ and the team came out very flat. Even the defense was missing a ton of tackles, and making mental related penalties that are both out of character. Sure, Clemson will be heavily favored against South Carolina, but the team isn't ever going to view South Carolina in the same way as Syracuse that night, and so it's highly unlikely that the game wouldn't be taken 100% serious.

Agree, we can't overlook at syracus,
Friday night indoors young team
Also, other teams have scholarship players too. Yes, we have more quality depth, but the other teams have at least some good players as well.
It was one of those nights. It is so hard to go undefeated in college football. That's why so few do it in any particular year.
The only team that can beat Clemson, is Clemson.
