Are our WRs simply not able to get open downfield, or is

1

Oct 28, 2023, 7:44 PM

Cade just not able to see them? Or, is the O-line consistently not giving him enough time for the play to develop and him enough time to get rid of the ball? At least one of those is a big problem; which is it?

Yes, it’s all a problem, but I believe it all starts up front. When they can rush 3 and still get to our qb in 2 seconds, there’s not much time to get separation especially when they have more guys dropping back in coverage.

Dude you keep saying it but it doesn't become true. Stellato was open once where Klubnik could not hit him bc he was running for the sideline.

Yes to all .@@@@@@@@

I believe it is a combination, but their is not a difference maker wide receiver

on this roster.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree we don't have a Hopkins/Watkins/Williams/Higgins,

2

but I see other teams, some that play us, who don't have NFL receivers, and certainly not better receivers than us, but somehow have a downfield passing game.

Watching TENN vs KY, and in the 1st half, KY has completed

1

Oct 28, 2023, 8:37 PM

6 passes over 15 yards to 6 different receivers. Playing against the #17 defense in the country. We managed 3 completion in 4 quarters today of 15+ against NCST, the #35 defense.

Our top 3 WRs were rated higher than any of KY's WRs coming out of HS. Their QB was rated as high as #9, and as low as #26. We have the #1 QB recruit in the country.

My point is this: Plenty of other teams with similar or lesser talent have more effective downfield passing games than we do. Few teams do less with the level of talent we have, and plenty do more with less.

It's actually both but I think it is more on the o-line. They are legitimately pathetic.

the O-line not holding up for our QB is one thing the other is WR not getting open like the did in the past we have a 5 star coming in 24 class if we can keep him

It's all 3. Everything is happening so fast for Cade. He can't look at a front and see where the free rusher is coming. The offensive line can't open any holes in the run game. A young guy struggling to process what he sees needs a run game. B/C the line can't open holes, play action doesn't hold the 2nd or 3rd levels of the defense. The receivers are always working against an over the top umbrella. Cade isn't processing what he sees fast enough to handle the short passing game. The only deep throw he's had that didn't have over the top help was the double move to Beaux at Syracuse. It's a terrible mix. If one of these things was consistently happening, the offense would struggle. With all 3, well, you don't need me to tell you what the scoreboard says at the end of each game.

I know one thing for sure. Our receiver's can't block safeties and corner backs so the screen will work.

It is literally a combination of everything you said.

Broken down… we have ONE WR that can create separation and that’s a freshman in Tyler Brown who was literally a fall back guy after we lost Nathaniel Joseph. That’s literally the only reason TB is on this team.

Cade is a problem in himself. He has ZERO pocket presence or awareness. He doesn’t feel pressure at all. Like literally not at all. I’ve never seen one QB get lit up by DB blitzes the way he has multiple times this season. You might see 1 or 2 of those happen to a QB in an entire season. I know of at least 5 times off the top of my head I’ve seen it happen to Cade in 8 games.

What happens to a QB who doesn’t feel pressure? He starts to get happy feet which we see with Cade constantly. He almost never goes through any progressions. If his 1st read isn’t there… he bails the pocket 98% of the time.

The OL is the cause for some of Cades problems but not all. Even when Cade has a clean pocket if his first read is taken away… those feet start moving a mile a minute and he usually takes a sack or throws the ball away… down wasted.

The OL is a problem all by itself however. This may seriously be the worst OL we’ve had under Dabo but it’s the most OL talent we’ve had under Dabo. How does that make sense? It makes sense bc Thomas Austin is lost and has no clue how to develop or coach these guys. Which makes sense considering he had little to no experience before being hired by a top 5 Clemson program when he was hired.

The OL is soft.. weak… mentally challenged constantly… they don’t pick up blitzes… they don’t pick up stunts… they don’t pick DBs coming in hot… they almost never open any holes for the backs.

It really is a combination of all things but the common denominator between this scheme the players and the coaches is the one man who chose to bring all these specific people into the program and that man is… Dabo Swinney.

Agree with your analysis, but one thing I would debate is Cade has LEARNED to flee the pocket or dump it off because of how he has gotten killed all season.

O-Line is terrible.

Re: Are our WRs simply not able to get open downfield, or is

constant is the OL is average at best for many years. Even before Austin..... Major fail in that hire as well as the WR coaching since Scott. Then we add a our no experience RB coach.

So, OL can't block, WR can't block, separate or catch balls right to them and we start a RB that can't run beyond the first attempted tackler.

Add to that the fumbles and crazy ints because our qb has no time to think; we have a total cluster XXXX of an offense.

all the coach diatribe can't refute those facts point to major whiffs on coaching and/or recruits.

Just my two cents.....

all of these things,

but several times during replays you could see every guy downfield covered up, and State getting pressure with 3. uggh.

Troy Stellato was open for a touchdown downfield but Cade didn't see it. Our OL isn't giving him enough time.

Re: Are our WRs simply not able to get open downfield, or is

For me, it goes like this...

#1 OLine

#2 Play calls are requiring WRs to run longer routes which requires OLine to "block" longer

#3 WRs are not being developed, aka not coached as well and not learning or improving

#4 Cade needs improved coaching

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He missed seeing Collins deep a couple of times.
