He is s sophomore. He was probably the best receiver we had last year as a freshman. He leads the team in Td catches. He drops the ball more than likely because the corner was flat on the ground under his feet. His feet stepped directly on top of the corner. You probably have never played sports in your life, but when your feet don’t land on solid ground it’s hard to concentrate. The only thing on your mind is not breaking your ankle rolling it.

If you are in the Charleston area let me know. I need someone else to play. My brother in law is only 5’8 and isn’t cutting it any more lol. Playing basketball is where I got my theory from. Plenty of times going up to get a rebound I’ve come down and almost sprained my ankle stepping on someone’s foot.

I've sprained both my left and right ankles 3-4 times each playing basketball. Played football both ways (TE and DE) for seven years and never sprained an ankle.

Yes yes yes ... his decision to break his fall (at the cost of dropping the ball) led to the drop.
Sorry, but a FB player who hasn't learned by SO year in college ... a FB player who has already played a log ... who drops the ball because he's afraid of hitting the ground will never be an elite receiver.
B.Collins has to be good enough for us as he is.
Ngata also dropped an open pass. Ngata's drop wasn't because of 'fear of falling' but rather because his hands simply are not (and never will be) of the caliber of Hopkins / Williams / Renfro / Higgins / Rodgers / Cornell Powell / Davis Allen / Antonio Williams / B.Spector / Drew Swinney. This not to say that Ngata is a bad receiver. He's actually our best 'big' WR ... at least until Adam Randall proves otherwise.
We got who we got. We can still win a lot of games this year with B.Collins and Ngata as the (current) leaders among our big receivers.

You guys should be receivers coaches, you could make millions. I had a friend once who made 147 out of 150 free throws in contest. Thought he would open a camp teaching foul shots, never made any money. Why he could never explain why he was so good at it. "I just shoot and make them basically!" Bottom line, none of you will ever know the answer.....If you could, Dabo would hire you!

Could have gambling debts? Could have had to pee ? Could be he is an average college receiver which would means he will drop more passes than a really good college receiver. Could be DJ doesn’t throw as catchable a ball as other QB’s ?
Could be he just dropped it?
I’ll admit it was strange as while tailgating most Saturdays I’ll throw the pigskin a few times and rarely will bobble a catch , much less drop it.

As someone mentioned earlier with no experience in big time football I’m not probably one to judge. However as someone who took a bad fall and broke my wrist, it looks to me like he was coming down awkwardly and more focused on the fall and not getting hurt.

Same reason for the muffed punt catches? That's the one that HAS to be corrected IMO. A real game changer turning the ball over to the punting team.

Everyone is different so it is hard to say. A lot of it can come down to concentration and focus. I played the slot. I had more confidence in making the tough catches than in the easy ones for a couple of reasons. First, concentration is just better on the hard ones because you know it is more difficult. Second, I got more nervous on the easy ones because those are the ones everyone expects you to catch. If you drop an easy one, everyone is on you; if you drop a hard one, they just tell you nice try and move on. Seems silly I know but that is some of the psychology involved where confidence is concerned.
If you watch the pros, you see guys who can make the most difficult catches one play and then turn around and drop an easy down and out with no one on them. Go figure!

Probably because big time college football is a lot faster than it looks on TV and of course he is not a great WR. He is serviceable and all we got tho.

Yes, his technique with his hands as the ball arrived was not correct! Too parallel with each other! His left hand should have been lower than the right in order to keep the tip of the ball from passing through his hands - then ###### grab! All of our receivers need to work on their receiving technique! This is happening too frequently!

The better question is why did he run out of bounds on his first catch of the game? He had a step on the nearest defender and perhaps 10-15 yds of green in front. With a good juke he might have gone for another 25yds on that play.
