Anyone else think Adam Randall will be a star at RB?

He was a pretty good WR but may be just a little too big for the position and lacked elite quickness to gain the separation needed to be really effective.
But at RB he has great size and balance with what might be elite quickness for that position. He will also be extremely versatile with WR skills out of the backfield. He could be a true 3 down back that can be moved all over the place.
If he figures out protection, which it seems he already is, could he be the big time back we all thought Mafah would be before his injuries. He could even be a better version of Mafah with his speed and flexibility out of the backfield.

I doubt it. He might be a good back up.

He might get into the rotation. But, more likely he getsw moved back to WR or maybe even TE on passing downs.

He breaks tackles, has speed, and seems to have good vision. Hopefully he picks up on blocking schemes, but I think he can be good.

I would love to see our OL make that a priority for the next season. All that “cross-training” stuff seems to have confused all the dudes to where they are not stuffing anyone. A young bunch of RBs are going to need much more help to be successful.

I think he plays multiple positions next year. It’s the best opportunity to keep him and for him to make an NFL roster.

I like what BretFSU is thinking. He seems destined for an H-back type role. Could be a great position for him with Riley’s use of 20 and 21 personnel for the shotgun formation. Put Randall in motion to get a pre-read then you can use him for protection, lead block, run routes or tote the rock.

H-back is perfect for Adam Randall. The H-back position requires good play for numerous roles. Adam Randall’s rare skill sets make him a likely superb H-back. Especially the pass receiving threat aspect of the H-back position.

It reminds me of what we tried to do for Rendrick Taylor, but Randall is a much more natural ball handler. And this OC has a proven track record of highlighting that type of position. Fingers crossed we get to see more of that.

No doubt he's a great athlete. He was effective with only 2 weeks to practice for the Texas game and now he will have a Spring and Fall to get the position down. 230 lb back with wide receiver hands and breakaway speed is always a good problem to have.

“He was a pretty good WR” is not true at all lol.
But he actually showed some skill as a runner on the kick return against SMU and as a RB against Texas. I’m intrigued with how he develops from now until the LSU game.
I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he started.

Careful. There were many similar discussions on here last year about how Mafah would be a star RB and how happy people were Shipley was leaving...

This is just a dumb comment lol.
A healthy Mafah was a star RB. He was putting up ridiculous numbers before he got hurt.
He played the entire back half of the season injured and his production reflected that.
But to say a healthy Mafah wasn’t a star is just wrong lol.

Maybe star potential for a stretch, but down the stretch he was anything but. A STAR player wouldn't be attacked and questioned by fans on why he was still in the game during the most important stretch of the season. I get that some of the vitriol was about the coaches playing him, but there was plenty of attacks to him as well.

What part of he was injured to the point of needing surgery is hard to comprehend? Lol.
Of course his production fell off, he was badly injured. He’s not to blame for the coaches not trusting the guys behind him in the room. He went out regardless and put everything he had into it.
If Mafah stayed healthy he would of ran for 1500+ because that’s what he was on pace for.

Against what competition? The most healthy he was should have been week 1. He put up less than 60 yards against UGA.

Honestly, I think this is a move to create more depth rather than developing our next starting RB.

I agree. Quality depth is a good thing.
All that pure RB talk aside, Adam Randall would be the perfect ‘true weapon’ H-back if our coaches are creative enough to use his skills properly.
Unlike the typical H-back, Adam Randall would a true threat as a between the tackles runner. Unlike the typical H-back, whose pass catching responsibilities are typically as a check-down receiver or a receiver in TE short routes in which LBs and Safeties would bear coverage responsibility, Adam Randall could run longer patterns and absolutely smoke any LB that was assigned to cover the normal H-back.
You get my drift.

This would be awesome 💯
Lets hope we see something that gives us a good feeling come spring ball that he could be a matchup nightmare in this kind of role.

he might make the 3 deep but when those already in the RB room learn how, when, where and who to block along with how, when and where to catch the ball he's going to get pushed back to WR.
I don't suspect he'll get any carries in the spring game. He probably get to catch a few passes.

I just don't really see it. Other than Brashard Smith at SMU I feel like you rarely ever see a WR move to RB and be a stud. He's got traits, but I don't expect him to be the feature back. We need to hope and pray that Eziomume and Davidson are ready to go because they're head and shoulders the most talented two in the RB room and if they get on the field we will be in a good spot. If their snap counts are low in the early weeks of the season it may be Air Cade for the first few weeks until someone establishes themselves as the running threat.
