I remember on National Signing Day, Dabo Swinney asked everyone in the room if they had watched Chris Denson's film.

He was sure they had found a diamond in the rough, and shortly after the press conference, I watched it.

I saw the staff's vision, but you can never be sure.

Take a look at Denson's footwork and release in this video. The throw is delivered perfectly, but it is seamless because of the work done behind the scenes.

For a quarterback's mechanics to be as polished as they are right now, you have to wonder how much further he can elevate his game in six months as opposed to the month of time on the practice field for the spring game.

Clemson may have something here.

If Vizzina had a repeat outing of last year's spring game, I'd say there would be a serious QB2 storyline heading into the fall.

I do think Denson's performance and potential can only serve to benefit him by adding a sense of urgency to Vizzina's timeline.

Next spring, however?

Should Clemson not dive into the portal and make it a true battle, things could get very interesting.

I was very outspoken about the need for a one-year rental portal QB for next season, but I'm willing to bite my tongue, given what I saw on Saturday.

Things have a funny way of changing.

I'd guess they'll try to redshirt him this season, kinda like they did CV. This kid obviously has talent but could use a year of physical maturation. Now obviously if someone gets hurt that goes out the window but very rarely has our third string QB played in five regular season games so its definitely a possibility he ends up eligible for a redshirt. Then next season it's CVs job to lose but Dabo has to go with whoever he thinks is the best option.

I'm hoping for a few big blowout games so he gets an opportunity to play. I think the kid has potential.
