Cade has had 28 starts and "still not playing up to potential". Really? Maybe he is playing at full potential and he is not an elite QB. Can he roll left and throw across his body and not always run? Can he roll right and not over throw his targets? I just dont understand why the coaches (mainly Dabo) can't see he is not an elite game time player. He must be a rock star on the "practice team".

For a first game I thought both teams looked formidable on both sides of the ball. The biggest difference to me was Clemson did not commit to giving their running back touches, which equated to a nasty LSU defense being able to lock in on Klubnick the whole game because their was no threat from the running game (I mean with actual running backs)...This lack of balance on offesnse wasn't quite good enough to get it done against a pretty nasty LSU defense. I give Clemson props for playing to the end, and actually giving themselves a chance to tie it up in the closing minutes...but imo the lack of balance on offense was glaring against a good defense.
The Clemson starting RB (Randall) got only 5 touches but scored Clemsons only touchdown and averaged 3.2 yds per carry while the backup RB's got a total of 4 carries. Hardly enough to get any momentum/respect in the run game. Klubnick (the qb) ran it 8 times, which is more than the starting RB and almost the same amount of carries as all the RB's combined. Sadly, it was fitting that Clemsons last play was the qb getting stuffed while trying to run for a 4th and 4 ....Klubnick may be able to destroy lesser defenses out there without much run support, but when they are so one dimensional against a tough defense like LSU it isnt likely to go all that well. Hopefully moving forward Clemson works toward establishing a run game with their running backs (dont abandon the run game with the RB's), and if they do, they could be pretty dang good.

Well put. I think coaching always gets highlighted when it’s top level teams. 1st quarter LSU is run heavy, LB’s overflowed out of gap assignments (Woodaz did back to back plays that they cut back on) and it hurt us. By the 2nd quarter, corrected. Coaching adjusted, taught, and played well. At half, LSU decided to pick apart our zone defense. Time of possession was starting to creep further their way, not enough pressure with four. Again, 4th quarter we made an adjustment they made contested plays to plays credit (DB’s seemed to fail at putting their hands up when the receivers hands went for the ball which often can turn a TD to an incompletion, and never turned their head back which makes the difference to refs in some PI calls). That’s teachable and Allen has shown not only improvement as a unit, but at least adjustments mid half fo give our guys a chance. Those boys battled hard. Almost 40 min on the field and they strung together multiple stops late when fatigued and likely demoralized by lack of offense that show a lot of grit. I’m excited about that unit and think what Allen did in just one game shows he can find ways to adjust schemes and pressures to better utilize our D line.
Offensively.,.. yes Cade played poor, and made bad reads at times. Felt Luke didn’t mesh the mark with OLins scheme and protection especially early. But at the start of the second half, they started sending 5-6, played man, shallow zones in the middle of the field, and to the point the safety was sprinting towards. 5 yard hook at the sticks before we ever threw the ball. They knew…. We had guys in the flat open. With the pressure some of course will be missed, but for a whole half, coaches need to fell Cade fo make it an earlier read knowing he had limited time. It’s some Cade could have” but coaches in the box and on the field all on headsets have to relay to him between drives what they see and what is happening that he can’t in a pocket with limited time…. The last drive. The 2nd and 3rx down at the 15… look at the right, far side of the field… 2 on 2, defenders 7 and 10 yards deep. You need 4 yards. Twice in a row we didn’t even attempt to hit a short hitch, quick slant ( slot we had 10 yards separion from the defender pre snap each play) or even a bubble screen with a lot of room where 1 block leaves 1/3rd the field do make a man miss and only get first and goal, but maybe a TD…. THAT back to back is coaches not calling plays or telling a struggling, under duress QB who had a speaker in his helmet that they have the same coverage back fo back where they can be gifted a first down without klubnik even making a read…. He missed reads. Had pockets collapse faster than maybe the game plan expected, but you HAVE to pull him aside and say “hey. Male youf reads in this order. Your 3rd or 4th read on the perimeter or flats has consistently been open. You may not have time to progress through ever read, so let’s change the order, attack underneath perimeter, and once they adjust and respect that, it will open up another way of attack. THAT IS RILEY’s BIGGEST FAULT. And you CANT win against good teams and smart coaches if you can’t adjust when they do. If a defense eliminates one aspect of an offense, an offense with moderate skill will have another aspect of attacking now open up. LSU didn’t adjust in the 2nd half because we never went with a different plan and they knew it. If you’d opponent makes a move in chess, and you never retaliate and make a move yourself. Eventually the clock runs out and you lose. We started the half with 10, never made our move, and the clock expired…. Riley needs to learn or go, players could’ve played better at times, but week one is always mistake filled. LSU’s coordinators made adjustments and only out DC made adjustments, when only one side of the ball for 1 team completely stalls out for over 30 minutes. It is blatantly clear who of the ; didn’t ever adjust…. Sick of if with the roster talent available not being helped whenever they are struggling.

Why does Clemson keep opening their season with these big games? Whatever happened to playing Furman or Coastal on game one? Dabo's teams are never ready for a Georgia or LSU right out of the gate. Warm-up games work the kinks out.

Scheduling a great team to start the season might help our preseason ranking. Also, a close loss doesn't do much harm. And a big score over Kennesaw State (which Wake did not do) doesn't help very much. Get the kinks out? Perhaps.
