Fluke losses happen sometimes... Pitt beat us the year we won the National Championship and we were far and away a better overall team than them. Gotta find the logical conclusion.
SMU was good for sure but I think in terms of schedules its apples to oranges. They didn't play any high ranked teams did they? (until Penn state) WE played UGA so strike that loss out and then compare us.
They were for sure a couple steps below us.

1) we would not have been in the CFP if not for auto bid and while not getting destroyed, we still lost. AP not gong to reward a team and move them up when the only reason in CFP is an auto bid and said team lost
2) benefit of head to head wins is limited
3)look on bright side, we are highest ranked 4 loss team!

Sorry to crack on you, but what you said is ridiculous.
The auto-bid is a clearly defined, unambiguous criterion by which a team gets into the expanded 12 team CFP.
If you’re going to complain, then the subjective aspects of the selection process should be your target.
BTW, I’m sorry that Bama didn’t make it in the CFP for you.

We made the playoffs because we for an automatic bid for winning our conference, not because we were ranked in the top 12.
