Just another casual 1.7% slide for the S&P, down 5% the last two weeks and 3% over the last three months, PURELY because of the tariff talk. Stopped a 2 year bull run dead in its tracks, so thanks loads for that Donny. European defense stocks are surging though, so that’s nice for them. With inflation going back up, rates aren’t going down any time soon. Atlanta Fed predicting -2.8% GDP growth 1st quarter while business is frozen over tariff talk.
Anyone want to try to polish the turd?

A) “thanks Trump for the market correction” sounds like “tread on me daddy”
2) here’s a homework assignment, find the last 3mo period where the S&P was down >3%. I’ll give it away, it was the tail end of the 21-23 bear market
iii) 4 straight years of screaming about the economy, literally propelled Trump to reelection, and everything is objectively worse since Trump took over

Go back and read my original post. You will find that I said almost every year. Now go back and history and see if I’m right. I’m not moving a goal post and have no idea what you’re talking about with that. Heck, I’m not even making a political argument really. Just saying market corrections are a way of life in stocks. I guess I had forgotten what it’s like having a conversation with you and others in your camp as well. Good night.

My point if you care to listen, is that every year some kind of chaos causes a market decline. Is current uncertainty causing a pull back? Yes! But it will pass. Since 1928 we have a correction on average every 1.1 years. I think that qualifies as “almost every year” as I said in my post. During the Biden years we went through a bear market. It was rough. But wise and patient investors stayed the course knowing the period following a bear market is historically something you don’t want to miss. But human nature causes most people to knee jerk. It will happen again now as it always does and they will miss out on big gains. Those of us who stay the course will be rewarded. That is literally all I’m saying.

Correct!! You’re not a knowledgeable or experienced investor are you? How often do we go through a bear market? The answer is not nearly as often as a correction. How often do we have a correction? Every 1.1 years on average since 1928. Geez man!!

Oh good grief. Yes, I said we went through a bear market during Biden’s term. Yes, one year and the bull returned which was implied in many things I e said here. I didn’t mean, imply , or say we had a 4 year bear. Everybody knows we had a nice recovery as history teaches we always do. Let’s just stop this crap. I’m not even being political in this topic.

The S&P is down now as of this morning over 3% in a month. This isn’t market correction, it isn’t some realignment of value with fundamentals, it is 100% due to tariff chaos. It is a self own, it is stepping on one’s own Johnson. The S&P has had two straight years of 25+% growth, the momentum was palpable. This is a wholly unnecessary derailing.
I’m not saying we’re going to have some 40% selloff, or even that it won’t recover this month. But let’s at least be honest about what the chaos and uncertainty is doing to everyone’s ports.

I’d argue we could dump another couple trillion into the economy and watch the markets run as that money migrated its way to the top, but it seems like a pretty false indicator of economic health.
I’m not apologizing and suggesting that falling markets are a beautiful indicator of Trump playing 3D chess, but I am saying that the past couple years (and more) have been built on a house of cards and if the market is taking a breather while more cards aren’t being added to it (I’m sure they eventually will, sigh) I’m not going to get worked up over that.

I’m sure QE helped us get out of the 21-23 bear market, but that recovery also led to enormous growth in foreign ownership of US equities over the last two years. Chaotic foreign policy and unnecessary trade wars are not only clamming up domestic growth (look at capex) and causing rotation back into Asian and European markets.
I’m not a permabear by any means and I don’t have any short positions at present, but if the selloff deepens and spooks retail, it could get ugly. Again, I don’t think this is “taking a breather,” or some organic correction. You can literally correlate selling pressure with Truths and press conference start times over the last month and a half.

I'm always amazed at what compels someone to lie about something like this

Lying would make me so embarrassed and obviously let me know that I am wrong about something if I'm lying about it.

Up 5% since Jan. Jesus, the man has said everything he was going to do, it’s practically insider trading without being an insider. I’m sorry if your entire nest egg is in your employer’s free target date fund, but I pay someone to do better than that.

You're already backtracking and went from you were profitable yesterday to you are now profitable since January.
If you pay someone, you're losing more than everyone else at the moment. But I guess lying about it makes you feel better?

This bloodbath is so deep in the market, it’s impossible to have significant wealth invested in the market and not be impacted by the downturn.

Just because the market indicies we typically look at like DJIA, S&P 500, and NASDAQ are down doesn't mean every portfolio is down. So, if your thought is every portfolio is down, then that is very simplistic thought and is just wrong. Now, I would imagine most portfolios are down YTD.
You have no idea what Obed or anyone else has done with their accounts, to make such accusations. He may have had short positions, maybe he exercised some protective puts to keep his head above water, maybe he is concentrated in a few positions and has lucked out. You have no idea.

There is a reason he isn’t posting confirmation. He could easily prove me wrong if he was positive today.
But he’s not. And he can’t prove me wrong.

Uh - you think someone is going to post a snap shot of their account on a message board?
Can you point to where he said he was positive today?

OP: "How are we all enjoying the trumponomics today"
OBED: "I'm up"
I guess it's expected that someone that would lie about their portfolio would lie about the clear conversation.

I'm not sure if you are intentionally being misleading about the OP's comment (for whatever reason) or if that is all you read of the OP.
It doesn't really matter. Most people on the board can follow the thread if they want to see what was written.

I don't think anyone's lying if they say they're still up today (and I'm only down a little bit).
But pointing out they're still up in the wake of this #### show is probably a bad way to look at it.

Anyone that said they were up at 11:09 am this morning was clearly lying. The market was down 2% at that point.
Most of us recovered today, but at that point no one was up unless they were in obscure holdings and not diversified at all.

the fact he's lying. He could easily prove me wrong if I was, but he's already walked back on his comment because I was right.
The bigger issues is that if someone would lie about something so obvious, you can't have an honest conversation with them. That's a much bigger takeaway than any broad commentary on the market.

You're spending a lot of time trying to dig yourself out of a hole that you dug yourself into this morning.
It was such a needless thing to lie about. The markets were down nearly 2%, there was no reason to pretend you were somehow unaffected to defend Trump.

I NEVER look at it, you know why? Cause worked my #### off for a long time. Constant. I kind of still do. So my accounts are healthy and I am not watching the market every morning.
You sir more than likely need cash on hand or more liquidity if you are watching the market every day.

I'm buying dividend stocks low. Going to be a good 3rd quarter. The dividends will pay for the stock in <6 years at this price.
