Am I the only one that has a problem with Pat McAfee being one of the top personalities in college football?
Don’t get me wrong, he seems like an OK guy but he was a punter and he didn’t even play for a school that made punting the focal part of their offense like Iowa.
It’s like having a few beers with your priest. You can ask him if the big guy is telling him weather or not Clemson will cover but you’re not going to lean on him for dating advice. It’s just not his area of expertise.

His role is basically to prevent radio silence between periods of legitimate commentary by Saban, etc.
It’s like having on-hold music playing through your phone while you’re waiting on the pharmacist to pick up when you call CVS.

Another role of his is to pretend like he's going to pick the opponent of whichever school they are broadcasting from, eliciting boos from the crowd, then turn around and sing their own fight song and pick their team after all. And do stupid stunts like jump off the high dive at the UM pool. I thought it was animal cruelty to have ######### jump into a pool from the high dive, but here's one place that still does it.
I actually don't mind him too much but he has become predictable. Oh look he's going to do something stupid and also pander to the home crowd. I guess when you have a table with seemingly a dozen commentators seated there, one of them has to be a goofball.

I don't know him personally but it seems like an act. I'm not into it but I'm sure some love the over-the-top presentation. Was not aware any school made punting a focal point of the offense. Talk about playing to lose....

God created remotes for televisions for us to change channels. The reason Game Day goes to different schools is to allow the students to see the celebrities, get excited and show their school spirit and McAfee is a big part of that.

Maybe bellicheck and Jordan would be better ? It’s sports infotainment and espn needs ratings to get viewers and advertisers $$$$$. A lot of people like him, so he’s on.

When I first heard Bellicheat do game commentary, I surprisingly thought he was pretty good at it. Maybe because all I'd ever heard from him prior was his mumbling to reporters at press conferences.

His interviews with saban on friday's before games are must watch. He's smart enough to lob a question and step the heck out of the way and let Saban tell stories and give his perspective. He's good for an in person crowd and getting the college students going. At the end of the day it's college ball. Having youthful energy in these massive crowds is why its more special than the NFL. College is built on the fact that these schools aren't owned by anyone. Its all about cultivating new fans and alums every single year.
Now how people can watch him 5 days a week all year round? I have no clue, but I've got no issues at all with him a couple hrs a week. Not everything in media is catered to the old crowd.

Coach Lee Corso said gameday is entertainment first and sports last. Some find McAfee entertaining. I don’t, but he has quite a following by folks much younger than me.

I am with alot of folks. Sometimes a guy is there for the entertainment or energy factor. In broadcasts you need that. Look at Mark Richt on the ACC Huddle. He looks like he has parkinstons or is paralized. Comes off like an intelligent but boring version of Norm McDonald. At our house we appreciate him, but affectionately call him the sloth because he barely moves. When you have qualified analysts like him or even Saban, you have to have that one talker to energize the broadcast. That is what McAffe does.

My father passed away with Parkinson's. I wouldn't wish that disease on my worst enemy. Maybe you should think twice before you mock and call him a sloth from now on.

That "slothful" movement you described is a symptom of the disease known as "masking."
I know because my old man fought Parkinson's for almost 30 years before it finally won.
Working probably keeps Coach Richt engaged and vital, and it's to the ACC Network's credit that they're sticking with him even as he navigates a very difficult personal situation.

My apologies. I meant no insult to Coach Richt, my point was the broadcasts often need an energy person to augment the football brains that are not necessarily very energized. We enjoy his input and I watch the ACC Huddle over Gameday mostly because of him. Like I said we have affection for him. I did not know for sure if he had parkinsons or not. I promise to be more delicate in my comments about him in the future.

Personally he annoys me. Can't watch since Corso's gone. But he's not on there for guys my age. I watch the ACCN Huddle show instead. A lot of the reasons for my dislike for him is exactly the same reason I don't think the film industry is worth the price cc e of admission anymore. I'm not the target audience for pop culture anymore.
