No idea but I thought the original idea was for 1-4 with byes and the 9th-12th teams at the home fields of the 5th-8th teams.

The four highest seeds can only go to conference champions.

I think it looks like this:

The six highest ranked conference champions get a spot, with the four highest ranked champs earning first-round byes.
Big10 - Michigan (2) Bye
Big12- K State (9)
SEC - Georgia (1) Bye
PAC12 - Utah (8) Bye
ACC - Clemson (7) Bye
G5 - Tulane (12)

The selection committee will also pick the six best at-large teams, chosen regardless of conference.
TCU - 3
OSU - 4
Bama - 5
Tenn - 6
USC -10
PSU - 11

First/Second round:
TCU(3) vs Tulane (12) winner vs Utah (8)
OSU (4) vs PSU (11) winner vs Clemson (7)
Bama (5) vs USC (10). winner vs Michigan (2)
Tenn (6) vs K State (9) winner vs Georgia (1)
