All of a sudden, Dabo is right about the portal

He was opposed to and outspoken about the portal in the beginning and it's starting to look like he is right. In addition, he's right about paying athletes as well. The whole thing has turned into "me too" and not the team for these marshmallows.
Get quality players from High School and develop them into the "ALL IN" mentality. The portal is a disaster.

Not sure but Michigan, Georgia, and Ohio State have all had stellar classes in the last 4 years so you have to assume, they are playing with their high school recruits.

because of our disagreement with it. We could really use some DL and a big possession WR. It's ludicrous to expect to bring in Freshmen to solve that. We'll get some studs, I'm sure, but they aren't at the same level as a 21 year old.

Until all 85 scholarship players on a team accept the fact that they cannot all play and most certainly that they will not all start, the Portal will be a good thing for some players. The Portal will not go away but like other rules that affect athletes, it will likely be tweaked down the line.

Coaches contacting players mid-season is already banned. They use third parties to get around that. NCAA regulations don't apply to anyone who isn't employed by or attending one of their schools, and you can't punish a player simply for reading an email that was sent by someone who wants them to transfer.

Dabo WILL get a few(not many)- he has to-to keep up. They will be outstanding when he does. Dabo-I think will take his time and be selective. It is a mess, but Dabo and his staff will handle it well. Bet on it.

Nobody ever said he was wrong about that. Just wrong about starting QBs. It will be portal warriors in the CFP every year though as the process stands. The CFP will turn into the new All-Star game every year.

If a player is deep on the charts after being here for 3 years, he may get a break and being a starter. However, he may prefer a shot in the portal to allow many teams to assess talent and break into their lineup. Either way may not work out, but how is it all bad for Clemson? We're naturally going to lose players to the portal to lesser teams. We're not going to gain many 3rd stringers on lesser teams. However, we get scholarships freed up to take more recruits. That allows you to sift through more talent. Seems like a win even if it's tougher on coaches to develop more players.

It mostly benefits the players not the schools so we just have to adapt and keep up whether we want to or not if we want to stay relevant. I think it sucks for college sports but we have to change with the times.

A strong 17 year old with a 100 IQ could have $40,000 or more in the bank than a college boy with a worthless degree by age 21 .And I include Clemson in that sentence.unless you are in a specific category get an associate in medical technology and let the parents of Roderick go broke pushing him through.

Yeah it sure didnt work out for the chickens with spencer Rattler or with Bo Nix at Oregon (Not to mention Joe Barrow at LSU) Like it or not (personally I dont) but if we want to compete at a high level its a fact of life as for developing talent all the top players care about is getting to "the league" Again handicapping us with only inferior talent That idea will fill the field with future lawyers and accountants and a quick path to obscurity

Take all your bitching and keep it to yourself. Joe Burrow alone is enough to disprove your negativity. I'm not saying I like it but the portal and players don't care if you like it. It's here and if you don't use it you are hurting your team because of stubborn resistance to change. We're losing far more players than we are gaining with the "we won't replace you with a portal guy" sales pitch.

Talking about the CFP and Championships, how many Joe Burrow's have there been? What other transfer has made that kind of impact? Possibly Caleb Williams next year, but none to date. Maybe it had something to do with him staying around long enough to mature? Most people born in 1996 graduated college in 2017 or 2018. He turned 24 in 2020, his 1st year in the NFL.

The portal is a mess, but a necessary mess. You can't replace upper class men with freshmen. When you have upper class men transferring out, you need to replace them with upperclassmen.
