Is the strength of Auburn football their DEFENSE?

I know they have some really good players 'cause we recruited some of them, including Lawson and Adams. But is their OFFENSE really all that big of a threat? If their D is their primary reason to be able to hang with CLEMSON, and Steele is their new DC, then this will be a blowout of biblical proportions. I may have to bet the farm on MY TIGERS.

Re. Auburn, I keep seeing predictions of blow-outs on here. I'm here to tell you, conventional wisdom dictates that we should be very happy with a field goal victory in 5 overtimes. A blow-out AT AUBURN is just NOT going to happen. There is something else I am curious about, though. Steele, I'm sure, is very likely improving his craft as he advances his career. I would really like to know why LSU let him go last year when he had the 25th ranked defense in division 1. How long was he there? Does anybody know the deal here?Als, go to the Rivals Football Recruiting site and look at class rankings from 2012-2016. Auburn has consistently recruited top 10 classes. They have very good personnel, my fine fellow Tiger fans.

I agree that a 25th ranking is below standards at LSU, but I would have thought it acceptable as Steele's first defense there coming out of the gate. At least I think he was only there one year...anybody know? Just my overall thoughts on the whole matter...I don't see any kind of blow-out in a venue that we don't win in to begin with. There are places where we inexplicably implode, and Auburn is one of them. GA TECH and FL STATE are two more. I just want to win, and wins in multiple overtimes in these venues are fine with me.

Their defensive line in particular is their strength.

There's the caveat that they look like a completely different defense when Lawson is off the field though.
The thing worth noting about Kevin Steele is that Clemson is the worst team for him to try and defend. As has been pointed out, his defenses are very complicated, and an up-tempo team won't give his defense enough time to diagnose the play and get set.

Definitely agree with you. Add to that the fact that he is new to Auburn and it's the first game leaving their guys in probably the most vulnerable position of the year without much experience running it.
