That with NIL, transfer portal, & trying to recruit new players while working to hang on to current players, says it took away from actual coaching.

I have a feeling that we're gonna see this as a reason for coaches getting out the CFB game, whether to go coach pro or leave the game altogether.

I hope BC doesn't go after Beamer. We want him right where he is.

I scared some of my dirt ###### friends by saying that. I couldve swore I saw the look of horror on his face over text.

I also have had the thoughts about the NIL, plus the Portal together is what will completely destroy college football and a couple of other sports at the college level. But, we all have seen in the past what happens when big money digs its claws into what was once the favorite pass time for the less fortunate folks. They will do something with the NIL and the portal to slow the destruction down, but they will throw something else in the spokes that will finish it off....

Actual coaching and the changes in college football are unrelated. You can only coach at certain times of the year, and the rest such as recruiting and the portal are outside of that.

Truth be known, BC is a tough place to coach and to win. Even with Heisman winner at QB they went 8-4. He’s just wanting out. His record at BC was 22-26. If it were something like 40-8 he would be moving up in the college ranks at a better school.

If Kirby Smart said college football sucks now because of the changes and moves up to the NFL, he would do so as a head guy. Haffley is a failure at BC so he’s becoming a DC in the pros so he doesn’t get fired.

No one is going to "leave the game all together" unless they're like 70 years old. These guys can't find jobs that pay $1M+/year outside of coaching football

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why would they need to?

Feb 1, 2024, 11:06 AM

You coach a few seasons at that salary level and youre basically set for life. Hell just 500K is nearly 10x what the average american makes annually.

Agree. Coaches will adjust in different ways.

Some will try to ride out the chaos. Others will decide that they would rather just move to another job with a better set of working conditions.

I don't blame either choice as being wrong.

Maybe he does not like living in Boston.

Or it could be the unlevel playing field

Or it could be because it was BC. Their ability to consistently recruit top tier players is a question.

Of course, he could be leaving because that job was always just a stepping stone for something better

That’s probably closer to the truth and with a 22-26 record in 4 years at BC, he wasn’t moving up. He was probably going to be fired soon and he knew that.

I think he is originally from Mass. Or somewhere up that way. Either way big dollars as an NFL DC would be hard to turn down.

He cheated to beat future SMU in hometown bowl now leaves for Packers. NCAA prefers hometown bowls LSU has owned Sugar Bowl.

Certainly I think the difficulty of traversing CFB now with NIL and transfer portal could have played a part in his decision but that is a great opportunity at The Packers. Jeff Hartley was always a likeable coach during his time at BC.

If you can’t win in the Acc , go to the NFL.

Then why hasn't Dave Doorknob left for the NFL?***
