Actually, I think it did work if the rock wasn't damaged. If someone tried to break into your home damaged the lock on the door but the alarm went off and left the scene prior to any further damage wouldn't you say the alarm worked? I would! Not to mention that the video may lead to an arrest. Not sure why everyone is calling for people to be fired and are up in arms. Securing an iconic object in an open arena is a difficult thing to do if the person is smart and prepared.

It's a passive security system, i.e. it will only log what happens. It's not going to electrocute, shoot, or otherwise actively obstruct someone from attempting damage or theft. It's also entirely possible that whoever did the damage knew there would be surveillance and hid their identity.
Clemson is going to have to do something more drastic. They could put up a 2-step security system, i.e. an external cage around the internal case to prevent people from damaging the internal case, or they could simply have it retract into the ground.
Whatever the case, the real moral of the story is that people suck. It's ridiculous that this kind of stuff is happening.

Absolutely. Don't know which one didn't work. If there are cameras where are they linked to. Obviously CUPD was out writing parking tickets instead of paying attention. Perhaps they need a sensor that would emit a very loud audible alarm so anyone in vicinity could hear it and maybe a student could catch them before police and give some street justice first
