Honestly this is perplexing. It’s no one person’s fault. A lot of people’s fault. Circumstances. Bizarre events.

If we don’t let the coots beat us twice in 2010 CWS then I don’t think Jack loses his touch. After that we were wound so tight because he was. I understand. He cared so much. And at the same time the scholarship limits were really hurting us and private schools like Vandy were ready to emerge as powers.

So much weird stuff has happened over the last 15 years. Some insane failures to finish teams off in a regional or super when we had a golden opportunity, like Tenn and Florida recently. Getting stuck with Vandy 2x and Ok State when they had at least one or two out of this world Cy Young pitchers. Ill-timed errors.

My wish for the program is obviously we end this Omaha drought, but also clean up some stuff. Regain a reputation as a place where top level pitchers want to come to be developed. Stop playing the kindergarten music between each pitch when a runners is on base. Focus more on the game, less on the theater of it all. Exhibit good sportsmanship unless we need to respond to something unsportsmanlike from the other team. Let the scoreboard do your talking.

Weakness has predominantly been pitching. We never have the heavy handed power pitchers that others have. We have Knack now, but as teams adjusted to his change-up, his fastball was slow enough tbat tbey could sit on the change-up and catch up to the fastball. I use him an an example because this season he was the Ace. There have been others. Clemson will have to write some large checks to land some of these guys or Omaha is not happening anytime soon.
