ACC is probably just the 5th best conference in the country and we still won’t make the NCAA’s.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

Re: ACC hoops - terrible start

Nov 15, 2022, 9:19 PM

The ACC is currently ranked 16 of 33 conferences and hasn't finished better than 7th for several years. It will not be the 5th best conference this year.

That's amazing. I knew the decline was pretty bad but that's just sad.

It's really atrocious and it's one of the most disingenuous aspects of those that favorably grade Brownell's tenure. The ACC is a shell of its former self. We should consistently be finishing in the top 4-5.

Dang I didn’t know it was that bad. Should’ve made a change at the end of last season.

I think the ACC teams in the tourney last year showed that

the league was much better than the so-called experts thought! I will admit the ACC is off to a pretty bad start!

Re: I think the ACC teams in the tourney last year showed that

There are 15 teams in the conference. Just because our top 3 teams were actually good doesn’t magically make everyone below them better. As a conference we were 5th in Net, 5 in ELO, and 7th in RPI. That isn’t good for a conference that placed all its chips on basketball years ago. Just because Duke or UNC could win it all any given year does not mean the conference is healthy.

It's a shame. And the start that some teams have had is terrible. Notice that the rise from the bottom to the middle of the ACC by us, has coincided with the collapse of the ACC :)

Some of those team have s lot of injuries now.

Louisville will be last place by far in the ACC.

True. Some do. Some of those teams that won are good teams. Still, it's bad and embarrassing. With a decent (not good) team in the acc should easily make the top 8 in the conference. Aside from Duke and uncheat, possibly Miami, the acc is there for the taking.

But keep in mind, start of the season you get these upsets. We'll know more after 10 games.

Yet they continually outperform the SEC and B10

Nov 15, 2022, 9:55 PM

NCAA time. B12 has probably been the best conf recently. ACC continues to treat these game like they are some sort of preseason while destroying their NET and RPI which means instead of getting 8 or 9 teams, you end up with 5 or 6 in the tourney.

ACC depth has deteriorated for the past 10-15 years.
Really bad now.
Add unc being #1 and looking less than impressive in 2 games against overmatched teams - scary.

Why is Clemson's loss to SCAR a "bad" loss? 2 points at the buzzer may be heartbreaking but not a bad loss. When I think of a bad loss I think of losing to a small school by a large margin like some of the other schools you mentioned. SCAR as much as we dislike them is a Div 1 school. Thats not even in the ballpark as some of the other teams you listed.

South Carolina is a bad basketball team with a first year coach and a brand new roster. It was a bad loss.
