ACC Football: Powerful Awfulness....

13

Dec 28, 2024, 9:44 PM

We're 1-9 in the Bowls.

We've lost to the likes of Vandy, ECU, UNLV, UConn, and Toledo. Toledo.....just had to type that twice.

We might go 1-12. I think Dook will lose to Ole Miss. Not sure on Louisville/Washington or VT/Minnesota. But none of those games will be easy.

The SEC has beaten us like a drum this year. I think we're 3-10 against the SEC.

Jesus Christ on a bicycle, this is an effed up football conference.

It's been a mismanaged conference for many many years.

screwed up attitude with that extra-year's probation levied against Clemson.

Hate to say it, but Clemson screwed up royally by not following South Carolina right out the conference's door in 1971, when they resigned. Chances are we would have been sitting right in the SEC the past 30 years.

How could anyone who loves Clemson FB, in effect, choose to follow the path that S.Carolina FB endured between 1971 and 2023 (remember, S.Carolina had a losing record as recently as the 2023 season and spent bowl season eating Cheetos).

That’s 52 years of consistent misery … even after they got into the SEC about 30 years ago … with the exception of their 2009 through 2013 seasons + their 2024 season.

That’s 46 years of misery in exchange for 6 years of satisfaction … plus zero National Championships, zero CFP appearances, and zero SEC Championships.

There is too much panicking among Clemson fans because the current phase of the still-rapidly-changing NIL + player eligibility rules have made things awkward for us. The NIL and player eligibility rules are still changing. Clemson’s athletic powers that be believe that significant new changes will be decided that will be favorable for us in the competitive environment.

I’m suggesting to relax a bit. Panic is both unnecessary and counter productive.

Also, Clemson will be back in the CFP again next year. S.Carolina won’t.

Clemson has done much better than SC over the last 50+ years. Not even close..

The ACC is currently a hot mess. But it looks to me like SC is the program that made the wrong decision years ago.

We had a very good year because we won the ACC and made the CFP.

S.Carolina didn’t. Them beating Clemson in a nail biter didn’t change the fact that they neither made the SEC Championship game nor the CFP. Win the games that you’re supposed to, and you get into the CFP. All the other talk is just blather.

“Win the games you’re supposed to and you’re in the CFP.”

Was Clemson supposed to beat Georgia, Louisville or South Carolina? Lost those and still in the CFP

Its not a good look for CFP renegotiations this off-season....

Honestly, at this point, I'd like to see the ACC lose the last 3 games and go 1-12.

I changed my mind... 2-11. Really would love to see Duke beat Ole Miss just to stick it to Kiffin, but he'd just say everyone opted out and were not focused on the game after the CFP snubbing.

I am a Purdue grad and work here since 2013. I remember some really lean years for the big ten in bowls like 3-7 and not even being competitive in the big ones . This was back when the big ten wasn’t getting the players due to all the good players coming from the south. But at least the big ten had forward looking leadership and capitalized on what it had and expanded intelligently (yes Maryland did pay off for them ) and fought for their network . Those years of Illinois being bowl out of the rose bowl were lean but I honestly think the ACC is in even worse shape . It’s stunning and not good for my Saturday watching nor is it good for the sport . It can’t just be Pepsi and coke . We need four conferences with a pulse.

Indeed, the ACC leadership has had its collective head up their own back doors since, well, forever. Pretending that men’s basketball was the hill to stand on while ignoring the dollars and cents factor that football had over men’s basketball reflects managerial and psychological sclerosis.

The ACC leadership (which is, for practical purposes, University of N.Carolina boosters) has finally figured out their half-century+ mistake and is trying to figure out how to make the ACC competitive as a conference. They know that the viability of all ACC sports programs depends upon ACC FB being competitive. N.Carolina has LOTS of really big money alums; getting those fat cats to commit to improving the UNC FB brand is essential for the ACC to remain viable. Allegedly, they realize that they’ve got to get the new show on the road very quickly.

We’ll know soon enough if they can pull it off and save the ACC.

The ACC is too WOKE to play football. Everybody is soft on their players. It's basically a Day Spa where people take showers well past 5 minutes.

the opt outs, portal entries and NFL declarations have given us the outcomes that shouldn't surprise us. Underdogs are more motivated win their bowl games which is not the case with CFL games. The argument that we were "blown out" is garbage. As Charlie Pell once said, "Games are often decided by a few key plays". Had our backfield been at full strength the outcome would have made even Matty McConaughey sweat a little more.

SMU is actually a success story overall....

Dec 29, 2024, 1:24 PM

They're trying to compete, unlike many other programs in the conference.

What happened to Stanford? They went to the Rose Bowl a few years back, right? They had a string of very good seasons. And now they're back to being bottom-dwellers.
