Did anybody resolve the question of whether we could’ve just trotted a few defensive substitutions out there and run out the clock?

Or use a timeout?

No you don't want them having extra time to set up the FG....tip your cap to them executing that long fg and hitting it with the clock ticking down. We had our chances before that.

We should have used a timeout when we had the ball with 59 seconds left and the play clock reset to 25 at 4&1. We could have ran the clock down to 24 seconds and then called timeout.
If we score on the 4&1 like we did, that would have left little to no time for GaTech.
That was the BIG mistake. You could go either way on the field goal timeout situation.

Good question, but chances are we would have lost in OT anyway given the way King was running at will.

yes Tech had 2 90 yard drives in this game. We knew King was going to run it and still couldnt stop them. The Dline and LB outside of Brown are a massive letdown after all the hype. LSU, TROY, and even Tech controlled the clock with long drives, we just cant get off the field on defense. This has to be the slowest defense we have had in a long time. The horizontal stuff is killing us with the DLINE not able to set the edges and Woodaz being so slow and missing tackles at the line of scrimmage at an alarming rate. The offense is making life harder on a defense with no depth also and without a committment to the run game will continue to struggle to sustain drives. Hard ti believe that we didnt recognize a need for a running back from the portal. Missouri goes out and gets a portal back and now has the number 1 back in college football while we are happy with what we had. just mind boggling that some refuse to call DABO out for this roster mismanagement. Dabo is running this team like a little league team where everyone has to play at least 2 innings . Just laugable !!

I believe that was asked about and Dabo said something to effect that special teams substitutions are not the same rules.

Correct. You can substitute but if it is easily anticipated that the offense is going to run the FG team on to the field to kick then the ref is not supposed to delay making the ball ready to play. FG defense teams need to be ready to rush on to the field just the same as the other side.

Make them rush and hope they get penalized or miss the kick.

In Tallahassee whatever stupid year it was when FSU comes running out to try some ridiculous FG from 57 yards they had no chance of making. Dustin Hopkins I think
Then all of the sudden Clemson calls timeout. I instantly knew we were doomed and we were. Not calling TO against the Nerds was the right call. Props to that dude for making the kick during the fire drill

Should have brought out Sheff and had him get a shot at blocking it.
