Streeter has some love from . . .

11

Jan 13, 2023, 7:45 PM

found this on a TCU board :

LisaLT said:
The ex Clemson OC. I'd hire him. He isn't the reason they had a less than stellar season.
He is the same guy who was there for Trevor and deshawn Watson right?

If so, I would be down for this."

WOW, I hope she gets what she is asking for, it will make coach Garrett seem like a miracle worker when he was at TCU....

working under an offensive mind like Sark 2-4 years ,he would learn a lot.

That's what makes good OC's, getting experience from other offensive minds.

Dabo could not fire Tony Elliott and he did nothing with DJ...Saban or anyone else would never had started him or left him in...Streeter could not give Dabo what he wanted from DJ and 5 will get you 10 neither could Riley or anyone else! Will we fire anyone who can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear!

I'm pretty excited about Garrett Riley in Clemson. That being said I find it hilarious that people really just think the guy can't coach. I'm a maintenance guy having Dj at QB in your offense is like having feet for hands as a maintenance guy. Did Streeter coach an awful game against Tenn yes but there were other circumstances at play there as well, the last 3 games the LG was out and McFadden played hurt. That side of the OL was money all year and that allowed for certain things to happen schematically to help the RG and Freshmen RT when they were struggling. QB held the offense back more so then playcalling, bc he directly effected play calling. There were several games where DJ couldn't "hit the layups" and made turnover worthy mistakes or outright turnovers that's when playcalling flipped to ultra conservative. For God's sake DJ struggled to complete screen plays that were not pressed.

I am excited to see this offense utilize the entire field in the passing game, idk what happened but the last 4 years there's been nothing to punish teams over the middle and the good DCs have recognized this and blitzed right down the pipe recklessly. That's been a Dabo issue imo, so with Riley in house I'm assuming Dabo backs off.

I find it hilarious you clearly don't have a clue about football, but still like to hear yourself talk.

Streeter has been an abject failure at every position he's ever had. He was the worst QB in Clemson history statistically (I don't care how "tough" he was if he threw a pick every time he touched the ball). His mechanics were atrocious. He tried to play arena ball for the Cobras because he wasn't even good enough to play in Canada. He was a third stringer for part of a season before he was fired. He was the offensive coordinator for a mediocre FCS team. Then Richmond hired him. Despite having a tremendously weak schedule, his offenses averages about 29 points a game. That's terrible and he was pushed out.

So we brought him on. Cole Stoudt had one good game against the #120 passing defense in the country (Oklahoma), and so everyone convinced themselves he was elite at developing QBs. But then Deshaun refused to work with him, and every single QB who did regressed as a passer under him. Even Trevor got worse as a passer, and the coach of the Jags said they had to reteach him everything. So what do we do? Promote him to OC, where he produced, with the fifth most talented offense, the #99 offense and the #54 offense.

The man failed at every single position he's ever at. DJ came in as the #1 QB in the country. He dominated camps and won the national title, having an amazing comeback against a future Heisman winner in the process. DJ then shows up on campus and throws for 900 yards and like 8 touchdowns in his first two starts. Suddenly, he sucks the next year, after spending time with Streeter.

What's more likely, that Streeter, the abject failure that he is, ruined DJ, like he did others, or that everything DJ accomplished prior to meeting Streeter was a fluke?

In all sincerity, what do you mean Watson refused to work with him?

First I’ve heard of this.

This is simply not true… they worked together daily…. DW4 never said this… It never happened, and it was simply a made up because it’s fun to bash people. It’s just not true.

Actually he has only been the OC for 1 yr so impossible to have two different rankings for total offense in one year. 2021 they were 88th in total offense and this year they were 31st…quite a jump for his first year. At this rate they would be first by next season.

Let's put our money where our mouth is then. You believe in DJ so much surely you think he will succeed with Oregon State. I believe no other D1 team in the nation would have been so lenient with his God awful decision making and poor accuracy. So let's wager a few bucks to a charity.

Also you're not displaying the fact that Streeters offenses at Richmond were improving every year.
28 ppg in 2011 ~2800yds passing ~800 yds rushing
33 ppg in 2012 ~2980 yds passing ~ 1550 yds rushing
31 ppg in 2013 ~ 3950 yds passing ~ 1650 yds rushing

You also ignore the fact he recruited and was a large reason Trevor Lawerence came to Clemson. He recruited DJ and Cade as well.

Trevors corrections were more attributed to Urban Meyer. Clemson does not run a pro style scheme at all so Trevor had to learn some nuisances there. Nice try though.

I'm not saying Streeter was ready to be the guy but he's not dog ##### like you make it out. Abject failure is a guy who can't find success, Streeter was heavily involved in 3 CFP appearances.

I'm extremely excited about the upgrade on offense with Riley coming in. I have a strong feeling Streeter was strong armed by Dabo all year from who the starting QB will be to the play calling. With Dabo recruiting Riley I'm pretty sure he's relinquishing the key fully. Plus for 5 years or so Clemson abandoned attacking the middle of the field so looking forward to seeing the full field utilized. I'm just not going to agree that Streeter is as terrible as most of Tnet thinks. I was much more concerned with the DC.

This is a GREAT post. Don’t forget about JP Losman, who was the shadow QB coach for Trevor because of Streeter. The mistake DJ made that Deshaun and Trevor didn’t was that he actually LISTENED and tried to be coached by him. DJ was not the same QB we saw as a freshman because of the poor coaching he got from this guy. He would’ve eventually ruined Cade too.

You're correct about DJ . . but the fact that Cade never got ready "enough" to supplant DJ . . that's on Streeter too. That was my guess for what got him fired.
