Interesting Math on Nate Wiggins

3

Nov 27, 2023, 7:45 PM

The fastest top speed of an NFL player this season is 22.01 mph by Tyreek Hill. If you are not familiar with Tyreek Hill, familiarize yourself with Tyreek Hill.

Tyreek Hill may truly be the fastest player of all time in the NFL.

Nate ran 22.1 mph on that UNC RB chase down. Faster top speed than any NFL player this season.

I’m calculating his 40 yard dash time based off of the information that we know. Which is he hit a top speed of 22.1 mph. I understand that it wasn’t a set 40-yard dash and that it’s not completely accurate, so you give or take 0.2 seconds or so. Which is a lot.

Time = Distance / Speed

Given that the distance is 40 yards and the top speed is 22.1 mph, you need to convert the speed to yards per second:

22.1 mph = 22.1 * 1,760 yards / 3,600 seconds = 10.84 yards per second

Time = 40 yards / 10.84 yards per second = 3.69 seconds

Therefore, if Nate reaches a top speed of 22.1 mph in a 40-yard dash, it would likely take them approximately 3.69 seconds to complete the dash.

I said you can give or take 0.2, maybe 0.3 seconds. And if you did and he was actually 0.3 seconds slower, he still would’ve ran a 4.00 40 yard dash.

Don’t know if he would match this in the combine, but I know that the most desired corner in this year’s class that scouts are watching at the 40-yd dash is Nate Wiggins.

And he stripped the ball as well to save a TD

Tyreek ran 4.29 at his Pro Day which is probably in the range of where Wiggins could be.

3.7 40 time is assuming he's running at 22.1 mph

from start to finish. Given that he has to start at 0mph and accelerate to 22.1, his time will be much, much slower. With how short the 40 yard dash is, acceleration is just as important, if not more important, than top speed. Only real freaks even go sub 4.3 at the combine.

I agree. If he cracked 4.4, that would still be crazy.

Ok well I invite you to time him starting from the 45 yard line then to when he stripped the ball.

That extra 5 yards should help even it out

It’s still about 4 seconds unofficially

And if he did hit a speed of 22.6 mph like someone mentioned in this thread, it actually makes sense.

This site has been using AI to measure speed and has Nate tied for 2nd all

Season so far. Now they have his speed a little higher than Dabo told us at 22.6MPH so obviously this is just an estimate. He was flying I’m curious to see what kind of 40 time he lays down at the combine.

that math does not check out because it takes about 20 yards to get to full speed in the 40 compared to being at full speed. I imagine he will run in the 4.3 range if he can hit 22 mph.

Yeah I'm thinking top end 40 for Nate is probably 4.3ish which is plenty stupid fast. Heck, Usain Bolt ran a 4.22 at the combine so if he somehow broke into the 4.2s that's Olympian speed.

Some former Clemson greats with BLAZING SPEED at the combine...Jacoby Ford was a 4.28 and CJ Spiller was a 4.37 (though he had probably the fastest football field speed I've seen)

Btw Darrell Green is probably the fastest NFL player of all time. Allegedly he ran a 4.09 40 time and could still run a 4.4 in his 40s.

I agree, I’ve never seen someone run 22.6 mph and actually make a game changing play like that. Especially a college corner.

That's a tricky, relatively new metric that doesn't convert well when attempting to translate to seconds/distance (40times,100m)–
